Custom Software

Hi,

I would like an opinion on something my company is planning to do.

My company has a product that is called Global ID www.globalidsd.com

That product is only for sell in outside USA and what it does is that it takes pictures of the checks when people go to the back to get money.

Now, that as for this moment that product doesn't have a Server client software. What is has is a web interface where the people in the back can go log in and get the info they need. Also you can use any FTP software to download all the info Automatically to any PC or server.

But now my company whats to "upgrade" that product which a new design, software and so on but what they want to do is built the internal software of the equipment in Android platform and of course no client nor server software will be available.

I know that on Latin America Countries that kind of set up is perfect but for example, Europe, Canada that wont work because banks wont just trust Android platform.

I am an important key on my company, I am the one who does all the webpages, projects designs and much more and I have been trying to make the owner of the company to change his mid about android. What I woul like them to do is to create a custom software base on Server side and Client side where you could install the software on a server to handle all the information and a client to access the server and get the info needed.

I know nothing about programing and thats why I am here because I would like any of you guys to please take a look at that product and please recomend me a good way way to upgrade that machine. I meant what do you think, is a good idea to have android on it or is better a server software with client side?

So... you have confidential information that isn't being served through a secure connection? Just a web interface that transfers back and forth over FTP? Yikes. I'm guessing that this that all that the Android app would do? Basically turn that "web interface in the back" to an app?

There's the glaring issue of security. That should be addressed first and foremost. Other than that, there's nothing particularly wrong with having some sort of mobile application for retrieving the data; if banks can do it to let people access their accounts, then you can do what you need to as well. You could even just modify the web application to have a layout for mobile devices, and use that over the browser instead of building an app.

But you absolutely should be creating some sort of actual server software to host the data and manage it. Give people credentials, and have them log in using that. I'm not well versed in the details to make specific recommendations.
