I will say that, there's no money in going custom. There really isn't. - You know that; in fact, I know you know that.
I'm not trying to crush your dreams but, look at EVGA's debacle over the EVBot...You know how much that little connector costs? 2 cents a piece. Literally. You pay more for the connectors than you do the plastic. - Look how hard Nvidia crushed that. Over 1 extra step, cold solder and 2c.
I don't deal with EVGA anymore after the X79 situation so, unfortunately, I can't give insight into their situation but, I can tell you that true customs appear to be a thing of the past.
I don't think we'll be seeing any REAL customization anymore.
Swapping caps, a few more PCB layers and HQ PCI-C's Maybe...HQ VRM's? Yeah, sure but, true pathway re-routes with new phases, power management and the like? Negative.
EVGA re-introduced the evbot with the 780 Classified and hasn't pulled it yet. If you look at the classified pcb there is some major customization and lightning same thing so why would you say no more real customization, those cards were just released. They are allowing 1.5v with the evbot. It's really not bad for $50 because you can use it for 4 cards at a time and can keep it forever and use it with there motherboards including the dark. It's almost like EVGA has to make it a little difficult to get to 1.5v. They can't just make it easy as raising a slider in precision as too many people would kill there cards. $50 for 1.5v and real time voltage control with 4 presets for each gpu is definitely worth $50 for me. You also don't have to hack anything, just plug it in. I think NVIDIA is going in the opposite direction and relaxing contraints on voltage a little bit, or at least letting some aib's choose. I think we will definitely see custom versions of this card. Jacob answered with a smily face when asked about a classified version. I think I would have to sell my classified's for these. Especially if the current classified blocks will fit.
