I currently have a ocz zx 850 watt single rail 80+ gold certified psu I have it powering a i7 2600k , 16gb of ram , 256gb ssd , asus xonar dx sound card , dvd disk drive , and a gtx 580 I want to add another gtx 580 so I can run sli . i read some where that the recommended requirements for 2x gtx 580's is 900 watts I only have $300 to spend I found the gtx 580 used for $180 so I only have $120 left for a power supply I found a coolmax 1000 watt single rail 80+ bronze psu for $100 would it be worth it for me to buy the coolmax 1000 watt single rail 80+ bronze certified psu or should i just keep the one i have and use the extra $100 to find a better gtx 580

No you dont need a new PSU

In fact 850 watts is already overkill

As for the coolmax smash it with a hammer

Well I don't know about you, but the rule of thumb I follow is always go at least 150w over what your video card requires. Since the 580 doesn't use much power at all in comparison to other cards like the 660 that uses 550w, 850 is more than enough for probably cards as big as the 770. The higher your PSU wattage is from your required minimum wattage, the less hard your PSU has to work to supply the required power. This will result in a PSU with an increased lifespan that runs cooler and has a much greater risk of getting common power related problems like video tearing and sometimes even micro stutter.
