Underclocking or Overclocking?

Thread Starter
Hello, I am a new overclocker that is trying to expand his knowledge

The Ram I got is below

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

Anyway, this Ram is suppose to run at 800mhz @ stock but when overclocking my processor and my RAM @ 1:1 it kind of acts as I'm underclocking my RAM. Today I got a new HSF for my Proc (Artic Silver Pro 7 I believe is the name) so I am going to try to make it stable at 3.0Ghz for my first goal.

To do that I would run my FSB @ 333 (because I have E6600 333x9 = 2999) If I run my ram @ 1:1 that will make my RAM 666mhz when @ stock it's 800mhz, so in a way I would be underclocking my RAM.

I was just wondering if it's better to overclock the ram and run at something like 4:5, or run 1:1 and have underclocked RAM.

I am still a novice at OC'ing so I'm still learning, so this is a question i'll be throwing out there.

PS - Is there a tutorial about RAM timings and stuff? I know the lower the better and the higher allows for better overclocks but lower performance but that's all I know...

Thanks

try it at 400X8 and you'll get 3.2GHz but you need to change the Multiplier to 8 in the bois

and you'll have you ram at stock speeds

Lower your multiplier to 8 and up your FSB to 400. Run your RAM at 1:1 and it will run at the stock 800MHz. This will produce 3.2GHz but with a custom HS and some AS5 I think your 6600 should handle it.

Although I wouldn't get the ASP7 HS, if you are that strapped for cash then I guess it could do the job but the Tuniq or a Zalman would be better. Make sure you get AS5 though if you don't already have it.

*Edit: Damn, DOM beat me to it.

What cooler were you using at 38GHz?

I just saw him trying to get up to 3GHz so I tried matching it best I could with simple/stable numbers.

I think you're confusing eachother, 3824GHz and 38GHz? LOL

well he want to get 3Ghz i guess he doesnt know it can do more with a good cooler

so if he just want to run mem at 800mhz try 400X8"=3.2ghz

and see my specs dont be lazy
