Tubing and other general questions

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Please help me out I'm planning on going down the WC road in the near future and have been reading a lot lately.

Left to figure out is what dimensions I should use on the tubing, what are the pro and cons on small vs thick walls?

I've turned my eyes on the Aquaero 6 and their D5 pump with USB interface. The question is that enough or do I have to get some flow and additional temp sensors aswell?

Cheers

Just my opinion is that you should use 3/8 x 5/8, 7/16 x 5/8, or 1/2 x 3/4. All of those are thick enough that they wont pinch. 7/16 x 5/8 will be have the thinnest wall out of the 3 of those so it is half way between 3/8 x 5/8 and 3/8 x 1/2 tubing as far as flexibility. Tubing with only 1/8" thick walls (3/8 x 1/2) bends too easily in my opinion and can pinch pretty easily depending on the brand. For example I have some 3/8 x 1/2 tygon that is just "floppy" and you end up having to have to use anti-kink coils with it. I got the stuff for free along with some fittings and anti-kink coils but I refuse to use it.

I hope that helps a bit...

As far as performance goes it doesn't matter a huge amount but that is the nice thing about 7/16 is that it is half way in between 3/8 and 1/2 without being to flexible and you can use 1/2" or 7/16" barbs with it. For 7/16 tubing I use 1/2" barbs. For compression fittings though I make sure I get 7/16 fittings. I use 1/2" tubing but at 3/4" OD it is pretty big and can be a pain sometimes.

Thanks for your reply, I'm going compression fittings just can't decide on size. Leaning towards 1/2" 3/4" at the moment.

Also I'm thinking of getting the PrimoFlex Advanced LRT, any opinions on them? Quality? Easy to work with?

Yeh the Advanced LRT seems to be the safe bet as of right now. I have some but I havn't used it... I have 100's (seriously) of feet of XSPC UV Green FLEX tubing in 7/16 x 5/8 so I usually use that stuff LOL.

If you can't decide between 3/8 and 1/2 then 7/16 is the way to go otherwise just grab 1/2 it isn't like there is any major cost disadvantage maximizing flow has no downsides although it really isn't even that big of a deal between 3/8 and 1/2.
