Looking forward to that thumb.gif. I have suspicion crossfire via pcie 3.0 will have a negligible impact on performance. Only see it as in issue (a minor one at it) when going with three or more cards and Eyefinity. Crunching all that info and passing it to the master card, we'll find out soon. Still, most cards still cant saturate 16x 2.0 and run perfectly fine at 8x 2.0. If the crossfire communication isn't severe, I don't see an issue running a 290X at 4x 3.0 (essentially 8x 2.0).

That 3rd slot on non plx boards, though sometimes not optimal for a 3rd gpu, is great for a other peripherals like a sound card smile.gif

Btw, I had a SB chip on a z77 board w/ plx for a while and ran my three 780s perfectly fine in 8x/8x/16x pcie 2.0.

The PLX is SPLITTING THOSE LANES to serve whatever purpose. But, they are never any more than 16x to the cpu. It simply splits the bandwidth up into lanes.

It doesn't add more bandwidth dude...!

"Dude". He doesn't care about that. The cards have to communicate stuff with each other for SLI/CF. The CPU is out of the loop for that.

yeah i'll just be running CF for a single 120hz display rather than eyefinity, so I won't be able to give 'all' the data people will be looking for, but it's a start. wink.gif hopefully your predictions hold true haha.

if there's a minimal performance hit when comparing x8/0/x8 and x8/x4/0, i'll be dropping a capture card into my system and running x8/x4/x4 smile.gif

Since when is virtu for anything besides IGPU?!

Also, the main issue with ivybridge & haswell is the silicone used to glue the IHS down, than the not so crappy tim.
