3770k system issues - display driver crashing

Thread Starter
Lately my display driver has been crashing while gaming or browsing the web , sometimes it sends my cpu into spaz attacks where the load goes from 0 to 100% (spiking basicly) and locks up at 100% load and then free's up at 0%. I'm running the cpu at 4.5 ghz @ 1.256vcore , have run prime95 for 2hrs with no errors (90%+ memory used), ran memtest86 on all dimms with no problems , psu volts are stable. I've also tried to run every GPU benchmark I can find to force a driver crash with no success , but if I'm playing Bioshock:infinate the game will freeze my system up completely or spaz out and start spiking the cpu, unfortunately I can never seem to get to the desktop quick enough to see if the display driver crashed or something. I've tried everything I can think of and everything EVGA has ask me to do ( they think the GPU is going bad , I just have to re-install stock cooler and test in other machine to see if it happens there as well ). Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated

And what happens if you set your Cpu on stock clock? Is it the same then?

Did you a clean driver install with the newest drivers?

But in the end testing the Gpu is propably the best way to find out.

was good for a couple of hours while gaming then it started to freeze up while I was closing the game, once bioshock closed up the cpu was still spiking.

I've tried to do a clean install of the drivers, even went as far as a full re-install of windows, same problems before and after.

all tests that I've done would say things are A-OK , really haven't had any issues while testing the GPU or CPU. problems have only happened when playing bioshock or WoT (don't play to much any more) but if I play elderscrolls:skyrim I have zero issues.

update:display driver just crashed while viewing this page

Noticed you have a GTX 680 in your sig, what version drivers are you using from NVIDIA? Almost all the WHQL drivers that have been released the past couple of months have been nothing but trouble for me, and I only have been having great success with the Beta drivers. Here's the newest BETA: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/67378/en-us

Install it if you haven't installed it yet. Just make sure you do a clean install. Also when you uninstall the old drivers, and restart. Before installing the new drivers, run CC Cleaner's Registry cleaner.

I've never heard of an unstable CPU causing a display driver crash. It's very likely GPU-related, whether it be a buggy driver version, an unstable OC, or the hardware just malfunctioning. Revert to drivers that are known to be stable - or perhaps try the latest beta, and bring your GPU down to normal clocks or even underclock it to rule the OC and drivers out.

If you really think you're having CPU troubles, regardless of the display drivers, try running Cinebench. I've had it catch an unstable OC when Prime, linpack, folding, and pretty much everything else ran fine for many hours. If Cinebench won't even run the benchmark when you hit "Run", then your CPU OC isn't stable.

Another easy thing to rule out, regardless of whatever is causing the display driver issues, is to run memtest. It's a pretty quick test, and knowing you don't have flaky memory is always nice for peace of mind as you're troubleshooting.

Tried gen2 on my pci-e and got a game crash as well

I've tried the current beta driver before I did a full window re-install and had the same error, will give it another try and see what happens. thumb.gif

Cinebench R15.0 runs without a hitch , openGL I get 113.07 fps and CPU gets 822 pts. I've ran Memtest as well on each dimm and then both to rule out the memory and got no errors.

I guess my next step is the one I've been trying to avoid, installing the stock cooler and trying the card in another system.
