AMD recently made a public statement about starting production and development on 14nm FinFET and 20nm Planar manufacturing process based chips. AMD says work will begin on both processes within the next two quarters (6 months) reports X-Bit Labs. AMD's 20nm process will be done with TSMC and the 20nm chips produced will be part of AMD's next generation of GPUs. On the other hand the 14nm FinFET process is being done with Global Foundries and these 14nm chips are going to be used in low power AMD processors - aimed at tablets, smartphones and notebooks.
Both the 20nm and 14nm chips will enter production in 2014. 20nm production with TSMC is expected to start in February 2014 while 14nm production with Global Foundries will also take place before the first half of 2014.
Figured as much since maxwell, slated for late 2014, will be 20nm as well. Chances are AMD's next revision of their gpu won't be until early 2015. Let's hope the r9-290x delivers. If I recall ARM and AMD are working together on the 14nm FinFet so my guess is that we will be seeing a good amount of AMD tablet and ultra low power notebooks within the next 2-3 years. Although Intel's clover trail is already prepped in that department.
P.s looks good, even if it is a thread and not a tread

Well tape out is going to be withing the next 2 quartes, so if we assume the worst 6 months. For example it took Kepler from Tape out (somewhere june 2011) til release (march 2012) 9 months ~.
14nm sounds really good, especially if they can get it out in 2015 (as that's when Intel's 14nm desktop chips, assuming the rumors of no Broadwell for LGA are true, are coming out). Though I have little faith in GloFo, especially after their wonderful 32nm process..
the fab is providing 20nm to apple first. best case scenario for AMD 20nm gpus is probably August-October 2014, so about 10-12 months from now. I don't think it's possible to see them release a 20nm gpu before then. If I were to bet on it though, I'd say release will be in December 2014.

I just remember that I was actually listening to that conference call but after about half an hour I got bored and went to a party.
Should've stayed at home and listened.
As long as Intel has a significant node advantage and more importantly has their gimp everything that is non Intel compiler at large there is no way.
It says that the node will be 28 and 32 for most products so I guess we'll see 20nm GPUs and 14nm chips for tablets and notebooks (and hopefully phones).
Carrizo however might be 20nm steamroller.
"Within next 2 quarters" is within the next 8 months....

Most people don't use Intel's compiler's though....
