Task Scheduler Service will not start

I've recently noticed I've been having problems with programs not updating etc or running when they should, upon investigation I've noticed the Task Scheduler Service does not seem to run at all.

Upon starting Task Scheduler I receive this message before the MMC window opens:

Then when the MMC does open, I'm greeted is this:

Clicking around will tell me the Task Scheduler Service isn't running; it is set to start automatically and all dependencies are running fine:

If I try to force the service to start, all I get is this message:

I've been messing about all day trying to fix this, but I've managed to get nowhere; I would really appreciate any input or advice anybody may have.

Have you disabled any Windows services using *cough* msconfig?  Services should always be configured with services.msc.  Anyway, please make sure that the following services are enabled in msconfig's Services tab, and set to Automatic start (and started) in services.msc:
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Windows Event Log
  • Task Scheduler

I've actually just managed to fix it. I solved it by completely deleting the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\RPC\INTERNET" registry keys and sub-keys, then resetting WinSock.

I'm sure it was rolleyes.gif . Thank you very much for actually taking the time to offer some help though. The problem was likely caused by corruption due to unexpected loss of power etc, rather than any misconfiguration; I'm glad to finally have it sorted. The only problem now, is recovering my tasks since I deleted them in the process of trying to fix Task Scheduler xD.
