Question About 144hz Monitor From Asus

Thread Starter
i dont have a good enough gpu to get good fps on a 24 inch 1920x1080. but im planning to buy the asus 24 144hz gaming monitor.
i was wondering if the 144hz still works if its not in the native resolution 1920x1080. if i lowered the resolution to around 1600x900 would the 144hz still work??
thanks!

Yep, it works. Just tried it out myself. Looks horrid, though, at that resolution.

Any resolution other than the native resolution looks like garbage, no matter what, on any monitor. So I can't really recommend any other resolution.

I haven't used the monitor for 3D, only 2D Lightboost. It's really nice if you can push 120 fps at all times.

It's almost pointless with a 6850. If you're not even getting 90~100FPS in 1080p, you won't see big differences compared to a regular 60Hz monitor.

My 7950 struggles to even output 70~100FPS at 1440p @ 120Hz, but lowering the settings to get higher FPS helped and I have to agree that it's really nice for FPS games.

Outside of FPS games, other games didn't really benefit from the 120Hz and varies depending on the action/animation of movies/tv shows/anime.

Except CRT's wink.gif

But you can disable scaling on most monitors which will display on only the pixels of the output resolution (ie. the picture will not stretch and be shown with black borders).

As long as you don't mind black borders the image will be as sharp as if you were playing on native.

If you're getting an ASUS VG248QE then definitely keep it at a 1080p resolution and just turn down the eye candy until you get the FPS you want or get a better GPU too.
