Weird memory performance.

Hey guys, need your help on this one. Recently watercooled my cpu only. Took out everything and re-assembled it again. I have 4 sticks of 4gb ram. XMP profile was working just fine before I rebuilt it. Now, priming won't work if I put all 4 sticks in it under xmp profile. It gave me "hardware failure" error. I ran memtes on all 4 sticks individually and all fine passing 3 passes each. I put 2 sticks in slot A1 + B1 and A2 + B2 and prime it separately gave me no error. Finally I ran memtest on all 4 sticks under XMP and it gave me loads of error. The only way to get the priming work okay with 4 sticks is to set the ram settings to auto (1333mhz). Anyone knows what gives?

Did you try increasing the memory's voltage? If you have to downclock your memory then your CPU's overclock is not stable or you need to increase voltage to memory. Running 4 memory sticks with all those chips is tough on the memory controller. It's much easier to overclock with 2 sticks than 4 sticks of memory. You should consider running 2x8GB sticks if you want to keep 16GB of RAM and overclock. I've tried 4 memory sticks overclocking in the past and it's just really difficult to get the system to be stable and boot with all 4 DIMM slots occupied. I always have to downclock or remove the other 2x memory so the system would boot successfully.

The thing is i didnt (read dont know tongue.gif) overclock the ram. All i did was to set it under xmp. Running 2 sticks under xmp doesnt give me any error in prime but 4 sticks do. Before i tear down my system, i had no problem whatsoever. The ram itself is rated at 1600 and 1.35v.

XMP IS overclocking.

I have had a lot of issues with XMS since the DDR1 days, and while I refuse to use it, I may still be able to offer some help...

First, increase the voltage to your memory controller a bit (I am on my phone and don't know exactly what the range is, so you'll want to consulta guide).

Report ba ck with the REVISION number of the sticks, so we can identify the IC's used which is the important part.

Increase voltage to the sticks themselves, 1.5v to start.

If the above fails, pull two sticks and see what happens.

Apologies. Overclocking in my head means tinkering with more buttons. tongue.gif Anyway, I took photo of the ram as requested and increased the voltage for the ram. It was at 1.35 so I increased it to 1.45v and priming works!! Even though I just started prime but before, it gave me the error message in the first minute. Do you know what could happened? All I did was rebuilt my system, add cpu loop and put it all back together. Corsair said something about memory controller getting weaker and ram slots are dirty. WP_20131022_002.jpg 2330k .jpg file

A quick update. Upping the voltage seems to do the trick even though 1.45v is not enough. 8 minutes into prime, 1 of the workers stopped working with the same issue. Again, this is only 1 worker instead of all and this is after 8 minutes. Adding more voltage might just do the trick so I'll try later on. Why the XMP works with 2 sticks and not with 4? Will it be fine to run the ram at 1.5 while the rated specs only 1.35v? For some reason 0.15v difference feels a lot to me.
