Maximus Vi Impact vs Gene

Hey all,

I am going to be building a pc for school so I want it to be small(ish) and lightweight so I can carry it between home and school. Right now I'm stuck between mini-itx and m-atx. I think I'm going to go with either of the two boards above, unless any of you have another suggestion for me.

I like the expandability of an m-atx because of the multiple PCI-E lanes but also the smaller form factor of a mini-itx. So thoughts?

Also, if you could give me some pointers on a good case for whichever mobo you suggest, that would be fantastic! thumb.gif

Cheers!

moving to matx is easy, but moving to itx takes some planning. if i where going to want to transport a case around, i would prefer itx. i moved to a fractal design node and a z77 itx board and i couldn't be happier.

you just have to decide what you need and what you dont. both boards are great choices, imo. bitfenix just released a new itx and matx case.

If you have no plans for SLI or Crossfire, ITX probably is a better choice.

I probably won't. Once I graduate, I will do a big build with SLI and watercooling. I just want this build to be small, quiet and fast. Guess I'll go with the Impact and either the Prodigy or Phenom. I love BitFenix cases.

I recommend Node 304 chassis. It's smaller and while I like prodigy looks I like simple lines of Node 304 better. (also all filtered air intakes are a huge plus)
