Got myself an i7 2600k Never overclocked a CPU in my life, help please @@

Thread Starter
Just got i7 2600k as a gift from a friend and I'm completely clueless on how to overclock,

I have an Intel DP67BG Motherboard,

16 GB of Corsair Vengance RAM.

I've seen some tutorials on how to overclock this CPU but never on a DP67BG and I'm 100% clueless, I took some pictures of the BIOS I would really appreciate if anyone could land me a hand here please and tell me what "EXACTLY" I should change and to what values. I'm not running a stock CPU FAN. I don't want some hardcore overclocking just slightly to 4GHz from 3.40GHz.

Thanks smile.gif

My 2600k will easily do 4.2ghz on auto voltage. The only changes that were needed were increasing the available turbo wattage and the speed. Keep in mind, the CPU will only pull the wattage that it needs, so risk is minimal. Yours can likely hit 4.0ghz on auto as well, with minimal changes needed.

Still, I'd be sure to see if the mobo has a boot failure guard function (if so, set it to 3). Also, see if you have a CLR_CMOS button in case you run into to trouble, and/or familiarize yourself with manually resetting the BIOS settings to default in case you run into boot loops.

1. Change 'processor turbo speed' to 4.0ghz (if this field is modifiable)
2. Change 'processor overrides' 'max multiplier' to 4.0ghz
3. Change 'Intel Turbo Boost Tech.:"
A. 4/3/2/1 Core Ratio Limit to 4.0ghz (if the fields are modifiable; change all 4)

With these settings, it should boost to 4.0ghz under heavy load. I'd try the above and then test for stability. Note the VCore under load in CPU-Z (or similar) to make sure it is using a reasonable amount and not going crazy. If you are unstable, I'd raise the available wattage:
B. "Burst Mode Power Limit" = 300
C. "Sustained Mode Power Limit" = 300

Hopefully, you will be good to go after making these changes.

You shouldn't overclock with your Vcore on auto. You should set either a fixed or offset voltage thumb.gif

I had good luck with it actually. With my hardware, the lowest needed offset voltage was exactly equal to the auto voltage at 4.2-4.6ghz (haven't tested beyond that. However, it seems everyone some people get poor results with it. For such a minor overclock (+0.2 ghz boost speed), I think auto is definitely a viable option for the OP, though it would be preferable to explore all of the different voltage options and see which works best.
