What copy of Windows 8.1 do I need?

Thread Starter
I want to get into Windows 8 now that 8.1 is available. Looking on the internets, there appears to be many variations... can someone confirm which one exactly I need?

Anyone know the difference between OEM and DSP OEI? Is it worth just getting the slightly cheaper Windows 8 and upgrading to 8.1 using the free auto update?

EDIT: Also, actually, if there is no compelling reason to get Win8 over Win7, please let me know. My PC usage is literally just for gaming (BF4, Civ5 etc...) and some PS3 streaming nowadays...

Well, everything in 8 is suppose to run faster than 7. They also finally fixed the bug which made your optical disc drive spin like crazy even though you didn't access your ODD and you left a disc in there. So the fix is called ZPODD (Zero Power Optical Disc Drive) it took them forever to fix it. I always thought my DVDRW drive was broken when it spins up for no reason. The first one is like the normal version of Windows like Home Edition, the second one is the Pro version, and the last one is an OEM technically non-transferrable license of the OS to a new PC. DSP OEI means SP1 is included with the disc. OEM will be the cheapest but you'll have to download the service pack. It's really up to you to decide what you need. I'm tempted too to shift over to 8 to get rid of that nasty ODD bug that has been plaguing me since Vista.
