And AMD is at it again...

Quote:
ATI’s integrated chipset with DX10 support comes in 2007 and we learned a few key features. It will support 52 PCIe lanes. This is enough to have three PCIe 16X slots and a single 4X slot. Don’t know whether you will really need it but sounds and looks really cool.

It also has HTX support which will allow you to plug the add in card in processor and memory. This avoids going via chipset and is done using Hypertransport marchitecture.

The RD790 is also Hypertransport 3.0 compatible and will be able to rock and roll with new Athlons probably supporting both socket AM2+ and the new socket F.

The board supports dual gigabit LAN and it has its own cache memory. The cache memory should help lower latencies and provide more bandwidth to a board.

I really do hope that K8L kicks ass. I want an AMD, having an Intel feels dirty.

I hope so, too. C2D is getting so much publicity as the "processor to end all processors", but I think that AMD knows that's not true.

I wanted to be fair and get an AMD rig as well as an Intel . I like where this is headed though, and AMD might be working the kinks out of a kick-@ss architecture for all we know
post #9 of 11
it takes around 4-5 years for intel or amd to come up with a totaly new cpu architecture thats why intel got beat by amd for the last 3 years they were stuck using updated netbust chips which couldnt compete with amds newer 64 bit chips, so anything that intel bring out for the next 3 years or so will be based on the core 2 chips just upgraded . but it dependes what amds new architecture is like and if it can compete or have they been pwnd by intel at any rate anything they do have prob wont be ready till late 2007 - early 2008 at the earliest[more like late 2008]. hope amd come back with something amazing because as much as im a lover of all things amd [way back since t-bird days] i cant help but love the core 2 duo ,

P4 are dirty, they run hot, but they overclock nice too, only thing, stupid stock fan limits me to overclock at 3.6 GHz for a stable cool overclock.
