To all of you that think it's wrong: would you be satisfied if there was a simple nuclear mushroom cloud animation after opening the door, indicating the end of the world? If so I think that's exactly all they should add in a patch. It shouldn't take too much effort.
If the game actually has a story and it just ends all of a sudden with no conclusion then they deserve all the flak. If it's a situation like Mass Effect 3 where people just don't like the ending then the developer has done nothing wrong. If Steam actually took the game down it is probably the first.

I hate it when these 'devs' go down that way, deceiving & tricking people just to get their pockets filled. Shame on them.

Same reason a person would be upset when they go to watch a movie, and 45 minutes in, it just ends and says "We intended to put an ending here, but, screw it, thanks for watching. Oh, and since you stayed for the full movie length, you can't get a refund."

Judging from videos the game looks really mediocre... I'm not surprised they didn't get fully funded, and I have to say I find this entire affair pretty scummy and contemptuous on the part of the developer.
