Looking for laptop for my brother

Thread Starter
Title says it all, I have been looking for laptops in the $500 range. These are 2 that i found.

http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Brown-Metal/dp/B00ATANTR2/ref=sr_1_6?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1382369597&sr=1-6

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-S56CA-DH51-15-6-Inch-Ultrabook-Black/dp/B009AEVMH2/ref=sr_1_44?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1382044751&sr=1-44

Here is the spiel
What is your maximum budget?
~500

What country are you in?
USA

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Primary use he says Autocad, I think this is a model editing/graphing software

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
I prefer Lenovo, but he will not care

What screen size do you require?
Says medium size, so >= 15"

What screen resolution do you require?
n/a

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
either, something is great condition

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
>4-5 hrs

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
He doesnt do any gaming pretty much, but will be using this as his main source of media (movies, youtube, music, etc)

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
n/a

How much hard drive space do you need?
at least 500gb

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
n/a

Is there anything else we need to know?
"want as fast as can be. like fast file downloading and program running like autocad and excel. fast video and picture processing"

He is a computer noob, his laptop is dying and is a very terrible laptop, he does no hdd cleanup or anything, so probably why he thinks laptops are slow. Not sure what kinds of virus/malware protection he uses so it might be full of junk.

Thanks in advance

Quick search on newegg led me to this OpenBox : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216457R

Edit:
Or, this one will be slower but significantly cheaper. You could use the difference to buy a 128gb SSD and an external USB 3.0 enclosure for the removed 500gb. But it's a 15" screen and i3 processor instead of i5 and 17".

But it says it's a "Daily Deal", I'm not sure if it will be this price tomorrow (you never know with them). There's so many laptop model around this price, it took me 1month to find my X73 lol.

Ive seen some Nice Alien-Ware used laptops on Craigslist some were in the $250 range while others in the $1000. You can find something decent for that price if you look around carefully. Granted he dosent need an Alienware but I say why not? Lol
