Have you thought about running an IPv6 tunnel so you don't have to port forward?

I actually considered doing Microsoft Remote Access (which is basically a type of IPv6 tunnel) but didn't want to deal with SSL certs, nor IPv6.

Any tunneling method will work fine.

I used to run OpenVPN on my gateway (m0n0wall at the time) and have my laptop/iphone connect through VPN to get access to my servers without PAT. You can go for MRA but it's harder to setup if you want to connect to all your servers simultaneously.

I have OpenVPN configured from my EdgeRouter Lite, but never have a reason to use it. I could have used it to solve my problem here, but my problem was specifically around web based access and I didn't want to worry about using a VPN client to put my work computer on my home network. It's virtually seemless and requires no interaction during my day to day now, to access everything I want to access, so I'm beyond happy with it.

Was reading through this out of curiosity. SSH tunnels are really nice, was using one for a while when i would tether my laptop to my phone, didn't want AT&T to know i was tethering. Guacamole looks neat, so it's basically a web RDP/SSH/VNC client?

Guacamole is a server that sits on your LAN that provides gateway functionality. It's like a middle man for RDP, SSH, and VNC and it's all web based with nice HTML5 clients. I mean, RDP over HTML5 in Chrome is just as smooth as native RDP. It's awesome.

Correct. From work I browse to the URL of my Guacamole server (port forwarded over the internet) and log in. It stores all of it's connections in a MySQL DB (at least mine does, the default install stores it all in a config file) and the Guacamole server uses FreeRDP to broker my RDP connections. This way I can leave all my internal servers on the default RDP port (3389) and not have to worry about using PAT to get them all accessible over the internet (I have about 20 Windows devices on my home network), but can use this one server to broker between it all. It can do the same with SSH and VNC.

So really the advantage over a VPN would be you can just use an internet browser without having to install extra programs.
