thumb.gif damn sweet!

But you're not going to paint the fans?
Thread Starter

I might paint the housing and dye the blades. Really depends on what the final setup is like with all the acrylic, and how covered the fans are.

I don't have enough confidence to paint fan blades, especially great fans like GT's. It's real easy to turn great fans into mediocre fans by throwing off the balance with paint. I may dye them though, we'll see. No rush right now since the rads are basically hanging off a storage shelf :p

I spent a bunch of money on Rit dye before i learned they changed their formula and it's no longer a good dye for plastics and nylons. If i dye end up dyeing them, i'll use Prosperse Disperse Dye and Dye Carrier from ProChemicalsAndDyes.com

Dying them is really easy. I suggest heating up the fan blades then popping the hub out. That way you won't get any dye on the hub.

Also buy some black fan connectors.

Also may I suggest heating up the fan stickers and pulling them off completely before sleeving. That way you avoid creasing the one corner of the sticker.

I already went through a whole dyeing ordeal with Rit before i found out about them changing the formula. I take the blades out, no need to pop the hub off.

I went through like 10 boxes of Fuschia, 8 boxes of Scarlett, and a bottle of Cherry. Then a cpl weeks later i found cpachris's tutorial that showed me how Rit changed their formula. I definitely know how to do it though. Just dunno if i feel like buying a whole bunch of dye again. I'm going with a white and red build. It's really only possible to dye something darker than it's original color. So i'm not sure if that'd be a problem with the GT blades Gray => Red. I tried one with the Rit Dye Bath and it just ended up purple. But that was the dye's fault

When i take stickers off that i plan on putting back on, i usually hit em with my heat gun for a cpl seconds first. Same with the magnet that coats the spindle on fan blades. I just kinda sleeved those on a whim the other night at like 3am lol.

I shoulda probly heated up the sticker first before i sleeved it, but like i said it was just a quick job. The sticker peeled back from the heatshrink. I intended to just sleeve under the sticker. The sticker peeled back when i melted the heatshrink

Also, why would i buy black connectors after i bought an entire system worth of white ones? :p :D I have a bunch of black and red fan connectors. I want white with this build though.

You saying that cuz of lighter marks? I got a cpl lighter marks on a cpl of the fan connectors. I have a reflow gun too though. I'll definitely use that next time with white connectors

Edit: I bought all my AP-00's for $12 from TankGuys with no pins or molex. I bought those white ones myself =)

Never been so happy that i leaktested. So far a loose STOP PLUG IN MY RESERVOIR, which pretty much means i poured the coolant in the top and the coolant drained out the stop plug LOLLL

Now Pump 2 in my 35x3 setup needs the screws tightened....

Edit: Ok, leaks seem to be fixed =)

Yeah, USUALLY you won't notice corrosion until you look for it. And if it's only a little bit, it probly won't affect temps much. Wermad taught me that =). Sometimes you'll notice your coolants changing color a bit. Like when Mayhems Pastel was found out to have issue's with the all copper construction of Alphacool rads. People with Blood Red Pastel were having their reds change color within like a week. It was from the copper corroding.

Dunno if they fixed it cuz once i decided on acrylic, i wasn't interested in Pastel anymore. I think transparent fluid looks way better in acrylic tubing. Especially the way it can dance with the lighting biggrin.gif
Sorry, should have said "I think a silver coil has more surface area than 6x hard line fittings"
softlines will probably have 2-3 times as much surface area to water than the hard line.. the silver bases are small compared to softline smile.gif

I actually just found a 3rd leak in my rad. Dunno who remembers when i had that issue with that port with stripped threads. Well my last batch of orders i bought a BP ST Transfer Adapter to replace the E-Adapter, since the E-Adapter sticks out like 15-20mm from the port. No luck. I actually shorted out one of my surge protectors plugged in right behind my rad, the one i use to plug in all my lighting for my camera.

Anyway, no leaks in mobo area. I'm sooooooo happy i'm doing this with my pump/rad/res on those storage shelves like i showed pics of, and my mobo on the styrofoam on the wooden desk. All 3 leaks have been all over the storage shelves, but no hardware :D

Fixing that rad leak though, i can now FULLY appreciate how awesome the BP Mini-Valves are. Especially when you have it on a rotary like i do with my T-Fitting coming out of my pump. I just opened the valve, pointed it down at my filling cylinder, opened the stop plug in my fillport, and voila!!! Entire loop drained in like 15 seconds. Love it :wubsmiley

And yeah, this 35x3 is like the Ferrari of pumps. I have this loop spaced out right now so it needs quite a bit of head pressure, and i've never felt coolant pumping so fast through tubing. I can't wait to get my Aquaero fired up and see what this flowrate is.

I'm also completely sure i want White C47's with the X1 Blood Red. I only have that one little crystal link going from VRM Block => CPU Block to really see how cool it looks. But i'm sold!!!

I'll take some pics in a while. Right now just watching for leaks. I can't believe i had THREE LEAKS. The pump leak wasn't bad, screw just wasn't quite tightened enough (I try not to over-tighten). The Res leak was insanely . The Rad leak was bad too, but i've never felt so stupid as pouring the fluid in the top of the res and watching it fall right out the bottom :applaud:

hehe, dude ^_^
I can just picture it.. how long did you keep pouring before you noticed the res leak?
hilarious tongue.gif

Really a good thing you did an outside leak test tongue.gif

I remember the rad leak, how come the new fitting doesnt work? isnt it the same NPSM thread as the old E adaptor?
How did you fix the problem? and what was the problem exactly?

You are running all 3 pumps now? biggrin.gif how was your flow with 1 and 2 pumps?
Is my 4-5 litre per minute acceptable? I dont know much about water flow tongue.gif

Nice to hear about your drain! I am missing that :/
Right now, I disconnect my ress intake and let both lines drop into a bucket -_-
Takes forever to drain and im not getting ALL the water out, still 2-3 cm of water in the acrylics going to/ from CPU..
I would love a valve in the external radiator (under the XB) I think that would drain the entire system and probably fairly quick too.

I probly filled my res like halfway before i noticed my storage shelves looking like they just got riddled with bullets :p

No idea why the new fitting doesn't work. I was under the impression the threads were the same, which is the exact reason i bought it. The E-Adapter is really tall, the ST Transfer Adapter is more like one of the smallest BP extenders. Figured it would work. But it was a pretty huge leak. Enough to dump so much coolant on the wall behind it that it shorted out a Surge-Protector that plugged in there.

To fix it, i just drained with the mini-valve and put the E-Adapter back there.

It's tough to say exactly how my flow was. I'm testing off a AC => DC Molex Power Brick, so no rpm feedback or aquaero. The single pump felt okay. As soon as i kicked the 2nd one on is when i noticed the leak in the pump. Then when i had all the leaks fixed and no more coolant pouring out, i just turned em all on and let em crank to 100%. Both my Power Brick, 35x3, & MMT Splitter i'm using to power everything are all getting pretty hot. I'm starting to get nervous about the power brick and mmt splitter.

I don't know Liter => Gallon conversion. I know that about 1.5GPM is supposed to be the dimishing returns point, where it's not really worth getting more flow. But 1.5GPM is alot. I was only getting 0.8GPM max with my Apogee Drive II => Rad => Res setup.

I got the 35x3 cuz i'd like to be able to shoot somewhere close to 1.5GPM with all my blocks hooked up for times when i really need it. But probly 0.5-1GPM is fine.

Edit: Turned my pumps down with my little pwm micro-controller pcb. Everything cooled right down. The Power Brick's rated for 5A, figured that'd be enough. Guess 3 of em cranked all the way must draw close to that considering how hot the power brick and pcb got

4-5 LPM is a rough estimate, poured 2~ litres into it in 30 seconds.
I havent tested with new housing, but it seams to empty my res a bit faster,

so maybe 4-5 LPM witch converts to 1-1.3 GPM tongue.gif setting 4 / 5.
