Thanx. I'm looking forward to getting more done too. I definitely gotta order some acrylic and 3M Dinoc this week to move forward with some more ideas i have. I'm also toying with the idea of mounting some or all of the panels with hinges.

Happy new year!!! :thumb::cheers::drunken:

I swapped around my mobo support rails but since i plan on having the 240 and its fans shrouded in acrylic i didn't get it mounted yet. I also test-fitted my RIVE BE in my chassis just to see how it looks.

I also cut some grommet holes in the front for the 360 and cut a little more space out for airflow. I just used a 7/8" holesaw for the grommets and my dremel with a carbide cutting bit to round out the front fan space. Then i just filed everything down a bit

I also got tired of waiting for my CPU & Ram to be able to play with my Aquaero so i modded this little cable so i could hook it up to my laptop and mess around in aquasuite. I just sacrificed an old phone charger and crimped some male dupont pins on it.

I spent pretty much the entire day today reading through all the build logs for the bit-tech 2013 mod of the year.
The insane creativity and workmanship made me feel like i'm currently building a tiny log cabin out of lollipop sticks =\

Anyway i hope everybody's been having happy holidays!!

HERE'S a link to the 1st page of the competition. If you click the dropdown it gives you overview pages of all the entries. I read through a bunch of the build logs that the overview pages link to

Some of the build logs from it that made me wanna throw away my XB & modding tools and take up knitting instead....

Guilty by Kier (A MUST READ!!)

Revelation by quizz_kid (A MUST READ!!)

A cpl pics can't show everything involved in this little box. He has a projector built in, a transparent LCD screen with shades that roll up behind it by flipping a switch, 2 built in gamepads, built in speakers, customized wooden mouse and keyboard, a full custom loop, and on and on and on....

The Samurai Sacrileguim by abbas-it  (A MUST READ!!)

^^Those are the main ones that i read the entire logs from start to finish yesterday and made me feel like i was arrogant for even creating a build log for my HAF XB "Mod"  =\

Here's some more amazing builds from the competition. Some of these are just as incredible. I just either already had been following their build logs on OCN, or they don't have actual detailed work logs like the first 3, or i just haven't read the logs yet for a cpl :p

Project N.V by p0pe  <====I've already followed this one on OCN. An absolute masterpiece!!

Imagination - CM Storm Trooper Mod by adamski07  <===Same with this build. A work of art!! I'd just already been following it on OCN

Model 01 by Andreas | Brodholm   <==At first glance, seems like a nice build. But the fact that it's actually a scratch build is insane

GwassGween by Cheapskate  <===Haven't read through this log yet cuz it was like a 2 year project

CosmosII the privilege by Corsaronero333  <====Haven't read through it yet...

L3p - Parvum by l3p    <====I'm pretty sure most of you already have seen this masterpiece

Also checked out a bunch of MOTM logs on there. These 2 in particular from October

Grey Matter by OrangeClockwerk (CM HAF 912 Build) <==Love the custom res he made. Also i learned alot particularly from his use of MicroRax, i never knew about them and am thinking of maybe trying something with em for my build

Kyubu by Ianovski   <=====His XB makes mine look like doodoo =\

Every single build from the competition is pretty incredible and unique. I just haven't checked all of em out yet. The ones i posted links and pics are just the ones that stood out to me. I'm gonna read through all the build logs tho

I realize that it's not very intelligent of me to post all those in my build log when mine isn't even on the same level, so i'll probly spoiler all the pics in the next cpl days. I'm gonna leave em for now though cuz even tho they make me a little sad, the build logs are epic and inspirational

Yeah, that's actually the build log that i just finished reading through the entire thing when i posted

"I spent pretty much the entire day today reading through all the build logs for the bit-tech 2013 mod of the year. The insane creativity and workmanship made me feel like i'm currently building a tiny log cabin out of Popsicle sticks =\ " yesterday

The main reason that i highlighted the first 3 like that was because of the incredible detail they put into the build logs. All 3 of those i read from start to finish yesterday and have been feeling very insecure ever since. Absolutely mind-blowing build logs tho. That first one by Kier taught me a great deal about acrylic

All the links i posted are to the actual build logs, not the overview pages from the competition. That Guilty by Kier is a highly recommended read when you got some time to read through it!!

Yeah every MOTY contestant build log is pretty damn humbling. I've been brainstorming how to make my build better since i read through all those. I'm considering making my XB like 2" taller and maybe 1" wider on each side. One huge reason i went with the XB over any other case like the Corsair Carbide 540 is the handles. I'm definitely not willing to sacrifice the stock handles that came with the case.

I'm thinkin of attaching the top portion of the side panels to the frame with rivets to keep the handles stable, then extruding the rest of the side panels out a little bit with acrylic. I was also thinking of adding a skirt to the top about 1" tall. But since the best window on my rig is on the top, most of the skirt would be wasted space. So now i'm thinking of adding it to the bottom. I like the idea that Kier went with in his Guilty build log. He used a thick piece of acrylic for the floor and used smaller squares of acrylic for the feet. I like the feet i have, but i think it would look decent if i had my current chassis feet screwed into 2 squares of acrylic. I'm trying to figure out if i should use metal, or if i can get away with some thick acrylic beams as the added support since my entire rigs gonna be resting on it. Also been browsing some @Syrillian build logs for ideas, since he was a master with acrylic. Didn't even realize how sick he was with acrylic til i saw his build on the Tap Plastics website the other day.

^^^2007!!!!!

Anyway, progress will probly be a little slow the next week or 2 while i'm trying to plan everything out. Also trying to decide if i should mess with my front and rear panels at all besides painting em. I like the way the front looks as it is with the shroud on it. I'm definitely gonna be adding hinges to the top, front, and side panels. Still might try a transparent LCD on the top panel. Since it's gonna be on hinges, i can flip it up to use it as a monitor and maybe add a pull-down shade to it for when i need higher resolutions (like quizz_kid did in his Revelations build). The transparent LCD idea itself i got from @Mosquito Mods Visible Contrast build log.

If/when i add a skirt to the bottom, i think it'll be a good spot for a decent sized res behind a window and maybe a cpl pumps. Anyway, if anybody reads through all my blabbering and has any input i'm very open to suggestions :D

Yeah! That's why I post my ideas in communities, to share them :-) I hope the transparent LCD works out, it's a pretty cool effect and definitely makes a good conversation piece.

For usability, I'd definitely say having some mechanism of making a backdrop would be a good idea. Just make sure you can still get enough light through it to see the monitor well enough. I had wanted to put a regular LCD monitor in the top panel of one of my other mods (and old IBM PC-AT case), but the space just didn't work out right. Hope you can pull it off, as it would be sweet thumb.gif

I could just imagine the amount of fun that could be had with a res behind the LCD panel... "Dude, your res has a crack and is leaking! Oh wait, what the..." biggrin.gif Or something like some of the aquariums scenes I used. While no longer available here for the time being, I'm sure a search for "Visible Contrast case mod" will still find it somewhere out there smile.gif

I like your signature quote, by the way (Axe sharpening. Being a hobbyist handtool woodworker myself, I appreciate the effectiveness of a sharp tool smile.gif )

Thanx brotha. Glad to see u in here =)

I've been toying with the idea of the transparent lcd since i first saw your youtube vid, before you even put it in your build log yet :D It would go great with the whole portability concept of the XB, but like you said, i'm hoping that nothing stops me from being able to pull it off. We'll see as my random ideas start coming together again. I actually hadn't considered backlighting the backdrop yet. Thanx for pointing that out. That might affect which side of the panel should attach the hinges

I wish i knew your thread was gonna close =\ But it sounds like it's not closed everywhere so no worries. I'm pretty sure i know where to look for it if you still have it open elsewhere :thumb:

Maybe if you could find a white flexible EL Light panel in the right size, that would work perfectly. Could always try modding the back light assembly that the monitor comes with too, since it'd be the right size. Worse comes to worst, you could probably just have a separate panel that attaches separately once it's flipped up if you have to.

Don't want to get too into it, but the log being removed wasn't my idea lol Has to do with my association with other sites/people, and one of the sponsors. They've removed my logs until it gets sorted out, once I'm done traveling around for the holidays. Hopefully it'll be back up here in the future smile.gif

I look forward to watching what happens with this one going forward thumb.gif
