I can't believe the shape the EX360 came in. I had to perform surgery on that thing, and the fins are still in rough shape. I thought my UT60 280 that i got a few months ago was bad. Straightening out Split-Fins is a whole different ordeal mad.gif
Also, you can probly tell by looking at that Lutro cart, I'm either going with White/Gray/Dark Red or White/Gray/Red-Black Fusion. I couldn't decide til i see in person so i just got both tongue.gif

Lol, well i figured i have so much stuff i've needed to order, why spend money on graphics cards before i even have a mobo to put em in =P
It's just gonna be 2 290x's to start though. I plan on quads eventually but it'll be a while before i recoup enough. I haven't decided 100% on my blocks yet either. I'm really liking the way those Aquacomputer Kryographics look, but EK's Titan blocks performed way better in the comparison tests i saw. Also just heard that Heatkiller's coming out with Plexi/Copper 290x blocks too. So i'm gonna wait til i at least have my mobo and GPU's before i decide on the blocks. Because I'm goin for a big build in a small case, I got no choice but to mix a bunch of companies in it anyway. So i'm not stressing the logo thats on it biggrin.gif

For quads in an XB, some light modding is requred to make the 4th card fit. No need to mod the door's handle if you're going w/ water.

Lol, @ light modding with 2 x 360's 1 240 and a 120 in a HAF XB =)
Also, I modded a door handle and mobo support rail a few weeks ago to make room the 240 biggrin.gif

I did it sort of like Elcono did in his Project Ramfit, Except instead of replacing the handle with a rad, i modded the mobo rail and just trimmed a little bit off the handle so it's still functional

Unfortunately i did it on the CPU side door not taking into account that a window on the other side wouldn't show anything except one side of one GPU. Luckily i'm gonna be painting my case anyway so when i rivet it back together i can just switch the rails around and put a window on the CPU side thumb.gif

This was my Metal Cutting Wheel after i did the mobo rail

I know the XB only has 7 slots, but i figure when that time comes, either I can just Dremel out the slot, or they might have a dual 290x out by then. Either way, i'm not sweating it. The whole purpose of this build was pretty much to learn how to mod. And fit as much as possible in my little LanBox no matter how much surgery i have to do on it tongue.gif

Just a small slot for the 290X's dvi port to stick out. You can still secure w/ the 7th slot's thumbscrew.

Actually that's true, i didn't even think of that. In that case, by then, hopefully somebody like Asus will release a version where the 2nd slot is just a vent for the fan and i can just grab a single slot bracket like on the 7990 when i put it under water thumb.gif

My biggest fear was that the EX360 was gonna make it impossible for the front panel to snap in. That's why i grabbed those Lian Li Front Panel Snaps. So it doesn't look like I'll be needing them now. Also those 2 PCI Bracket Power Extensions i got was really just to see how they screwed the Molex Connectors into the bracket for if/when i make my custom Molex Hub up top. I probly won't be using either of the PCI Extenders either..

Anyway, I've been up all night unboxing, taking pics, and messing with different ideas. So im probly gonna go to sleep in a few minutes. I just know I haven't had many updates lately, so wanted to show you guys that i've still been putting in work placing orders and such.... Now that i have my 2 360's in my hands and my ST30 240 on the way, along with a bunch of tools i needed, i can start getting to work doing more mods on my case. I should have alot of nice updates in the near future

Like i've said, this is my first build log/casemod/custom loop, so everbody that's subbed and has been participating so far.... Thanx!! I appreciate the support. Truly thumb.gif

Edit: My FrozenCPU package just got here with my Koolance Shroud, all my rad mounts, and everything i showed from the shopping cart; along with a few other things i grabbed from Amazon. The Koolance Shroud fits perfectly!!! So far everythings working out as i hoped as far as measurements =)
It's nothing too exciting as far as pics will go, but it's alot of key stuff i needed to put my build together. I'm exhausted, so no pics til tomorrow probly

So since i have most of the stuff i need to start cutting into my case again with the rest on the way, i figure i should at least get this log caught up to where i'm at so i can keep the updates coming in real time.
So I'm gonna try to work through these next 2 fairly quickly....

Top Window Mod:
So the HAF XB comes with one of 2 windows. Either the Mesh Top with a mount for a 200mm/230mm fan OR a Plexi Window Top. Problem is, CoolerMaster designed the case to be compatible with Tower CPU Coolers. And since it's a fairly compact case, they had to make up for that by adding a sort of hill in the roof where the Mesh or Plexi is....

The custom top windows tend to look wayyyy better cuz you can get rid of the bump. So when i was askin in the HAF XB CLUB here on OCN, Sascha1102 answered with the perfect guide. It's better than i could explain myself so i'm just gonna quote straight from his post....
Quote:

Ok, then lets start with a few infos. not every plastic or acrylic is from same quality. I wouldn't buy it at a DIY market, because often they have no clear plexi. The most time it is a bit blue shining. You should just use clear plexi or, if wanted, any other shining colour.

for all windows, I'm gone with 3mm clear GS plexi (good to work with a jigsaw and a special plexi blade, and very solid). perhaps 4mm thickness would be fine too, but that depends on the thickness of your mounting power tape. In the US, I would go witch the Scotch clear 19mm super strong mounting tape. the best I've ever seen. Here in Germany, if available, very expensive. If you use thicker plexi than 4mm, it wouldn't be plane from the inside.

***

for both side windows (just mesh area) and top window you need a 60cm x 60cm acrylic plate, or 2x 40cm x 40cm (recommend, because don't have to cut so much)

***

side windows cut out area is 12cm x 28,5 cm. the acrylic has dimensions 14,5cm x 31,5 cm (here EXACT 31,5cm otherwise if wider , you can't close the sidepanel anymore)
Then at inside top angled area, it must to be cutted to a straight line. as arrows in picture

If you want a bigger window, the lower rounded area must become a straight line, too.

***

Top window cut out dimensions are at the picture. acrylic has dimensions max. 34,5 cm width and 29,5 cm (to fit perfect to dimensions in picture. if you want it a bit bigger (from 45mm to 35mm at front in picture), then the acrylic has to become 34,5 cm width x 30,3 cm depth.

If you use exact the dimensions in the picture, the stock increase where the original window or mesh is in, will become complete plane.

at all side and top panels you have to remove the noses that are at backmost position.

So i basically just followed what he said down to the letter and made myself a window =) This is the Plexi that i ordered from FrozenCPU Mod/Smart Cast GLS Modders Acrylic 16" x 16" DIY - Clear. There's no particular reason i chose that exact plexi besides the dimensions, you could get it from a bunch of different places that call it something else but 1/8" or 3mm is about the thickness you want.

I mounted it with 3m Scotch 4010 which is probly the #1 most popular way to mount custom windows because it's incredibly sturdy and will hold for years but you can also pull it off in a few seconds if you need to remove it. You can buy it at a bunch of different places like Amazon, MNPCTech, Home Depot, etc. HERE'S a link from Performance-PCs in case anybody needs it. I also used THIS C-Channel from FrozenCPU. Any type of C-Channel or U-Channel that fits the look of your build should work fine. The purpose of window molding is to make the window look professional, cover the sharp edges, and create an air seal around the window.

I completely masked both sides of the panel & took measurements from both sides. Unfortunately it was damn near impossible to properly move a square around the inside of the panel so i had to make my cuts outside -> inside. I used my Dremel for the whole window, switching between a Metal Cutting Disc and a Carbide Cutting Wheel, cuz the surface is too uneven to get a jigsaw in there. Anyway, i said this would be a quick update tongue.gif So enough talkin, here's a few pics

Around this time i had to spend probly an hour straight filing the hell out of it to make the cut perfectly square (or as close as i could get it =P ) and to completely dull the edges.

Finally, I lined the entire cut with C-Channel. Then lined the inner border with Scotch 4010.
At first i tried just putting strips every other inch or 2. But because there's not much room left around the cut, the tape wouldn't hold the plexi down past the C-Channel. Everytime i pushed one spot down against the tape, the side across from it would pop off the tape that was holding it. The solution was to completely line the entire window border with tape. I only needed like half the thickness of each strip i used, so I laid the entire strip down, then used an X-Acto Blade to cut it down the middle, and used the other half for the opposite side of the window. Then I placed another little piece at each corner. Here's the result.

Don't mind the scratches. I don't remember if i made em with my Dremel or Files, but i'm giving it a paint job anyway so they won't be there at the end of the build.

Anyway, if anybody has any questions or constructive criticism for me, feel free =)

Also, I've been trying to use the flash less and mess with the ISO settings a bit for my recent pics. It's still a camera phone so there's only so much i can do. But there's really nothing i can do about some of these mods i did a while ago. I'm almost caught up though, so there won't be many more old pics in the build log thumb.gif

That window came out really good I think. That guide you quoted with measurments is extremely helpful as well. Real handy to have floating around the forums. I really want to do the same thing to my XB, but I need to get a closed loop cooler before I go that route. My CM 212 EVO would be touching the top for sure, but I like the window a lot more than the mesh top that mine came with. And removing the "hill" is the way to go imo. Cheers and happy modding.

Thanx brotha. Yeah, that guide was extremely helpful to me for sure. Figured it would be better to just quote it so Sascha could get credit for his great advice. I'm gonna be doing either one or both of my side panels too. Just haven't gotten around to it yet cuz i'm gonna have a 240 rad either on the top left door or top right door. I'll probly put the rad on the GPU side, cuz the view into my case should be better from behind the CPU. I feel like the other side will only show one side of one 290x.

I've been workin on gettin my EX360 situated in the front today. I trimmed the little bits off my front panel that i needed to so now it fits between the Panel Clips, but because the end tank-side of the rad bulges out a little longer than the other side, the rads not completely centered. I'm tryin to decide what i'm gonna do about that. I might need to use one of those Lian Li Front Panel Clips that i bought after all. The 3 fans won't look right if the whole things lopsided.......
