I have coollaboratory liquid ultra and mx4 coming soon for when I delid and I will be using the pea sized method so I think I'm set.

The pre applied stuff usually isn't very good, and there usually isn't enough of it, or it's not in the right areas. You're much better off using a small ball or strip over the cores and letting the pressure of the cooler spread it out. Trying to spread it yourself before mounting the cooler is not really the best way to achieve a uniform spread of the TIM between the IHS and cooler. There are a lot of articles on this, but here's a recent write-up by THG on the matter.

totally non-topical, but this close to Halloween the thread title becomes a bit dangerous. I cannot banis the vision of Some child dressing up as a haswelll processor and spending the rest of his life with the neighbors thinking he's brain damaged.
