[Build Log] The Patriot

Thread Starter
Hi Folks,

I decided to take on a little project and water cool my PC. Don't really have the tools to modify the case, but will still be tons of fun! My origninal plan was to build out an entire system, but real life stepped in, so for now I will be upgrading my case, power supply, and cooling system. My original plan was to go all blue, but since my existing motherboard is red... I am going with the patriotic veteran in me is coming out.

Why GTX690's you ask? I got my first GTX690 last year from the wife for my 22nd Anniversary, so it seemed inappropriate to me to dump my GTX690 and go with GTX780's. Not to mention one additonal GTX690 is cheaper than 2x GTX780's.

The Build:

This will be a dual pump single loop build with both radiators feeding the overclocked CPU. I do not plan to overclock the GPU. I may in the future and in that case will split the radiators betweent the CPU and GPU.

New Components:
Corsair 900D Case
Corair AX 1200i
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690

New Cooling Components:

Pumps:
Alphacool VPP655 Single Edition (AC-13122)
Bitspower D5 / MCP655 Pump Mod Kit - Blue
Bitspower Dual / Single D5 Top Upgrade Kit 150
Bitspower Water Tank Z-Multi 150 - POM (BP-WTZM150P-BK)

Push/Pull Radiators:
Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 480mm (AC-14159)
Thermalright X-Silent 120mm Liquid Bearing Silent Cooling Fans (TR-X-SILENT120)
SilverStone (SST-AP121) 120 mm Air Penetrator fan - Blue LED (SST-AP121-BL)

Fittings:
Koolance Swiveling Coupling Adapter, G 1/4 Male-Female (ADT-SMF)
Koolance Nozzle Coupling Adapter, G 1/4 Male-Female (ADT-XMF)
Koolance Nozzle Coupling Adapter, Male-Female, 20mm (ADT-XMF-L)
Koolance QD3 Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling Male, Threaded G 1/4 BSPP (QD3-MG4)
Koolance QD3 Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling, Female Compression 10 x 13mm (3/8 x 1/2in) (QD3-F10X13)
Koolance QD3 Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling, Female L Compression 10 x 13mm (3/8 x 1/2in) (QD3-F10X13-L)
Koolance QD3 Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling, Male Compression 10 x 13mm (3/8 x 1/2in) (QD3-M10X13)
Koolance Fitting Single, Swiveling 45-Degree (ADT-DXG45)
Koolance Nozzle Single, 3/8" (10mm) G1/4 Angled Threaded (NZL-L10)
Koolance Nozzle Single, 3/8" (10mm) G1/4 Threaded (NZL-V10)
Koolance Fitting Single, Swiveling 90-Degree (ADT-DXG90)

CPU and GPU:
XSPC Razor nVidia GTX 690 Full Coverage
XSPC Raystorm CPU Waterblock - Intel (XSPC-RAYSTORM-INTEL)
XSPC Razor SLI Flow Bridge (RZR-SLI-BRIDGE)

Tubing:
Feser Tube Active UV Hose - 3/8" ID (1/2"OD) Anti-Kink Tubing - White / UV Blue

Fan Controller:
Akasa FC SIX Brushed Aluminum 6-Channel Fan Controller Version 2 - Black (AK-FC-08BKV2)

Reused Components:
Intel I5-3570K
Asrock Z68 Fata1lty MB
ADATA XPG Gaming Memory 32G
128G Samsung SSD
1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200
4TB HGST Deskstar 7200
500G Seagate Barracuda 7200
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690

WATER FLOW DIAGRAM:

Old System:

Starting the build:

My 900D arrived with a hole in the bottom of the box. No visible damage to the case, however, when I opened the case I noticed the MB posts were jacked up and had rust on them. The damage must have been there before it was shipped to me. I opened a case with Corsair, but after days of no response used some spares I had from previous cases. The other issue I had is the radiator mounting points. The bolt head on the Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 are M3 fine thread bolts. The case came with M4 corse thread for attaching the radiator. The M3 bolt head passes cleanly through the mounting holes, so day one was a trip to Lowes and HomeDepot for washers and paint.

Stole the wife's shoe box and off to the races:

Tried to match the Bitspower mod blue... hopefully it will work.

That is it for today, I will post more pics as I go. Cheers and thanks for reading!

Day 2 goal was to get pump and radiators mounted. First thing I did was remove the hard drive bays, and bay mounting shelf.

Next thing I decided to do was mount the pump brackets.

Next I installed pump mods and sleeved the pump cables with Royal Blue 550 cord from Lutro0 Customs.

Once the sleeving was done, I mounted the Asrock motherboard and pumps into the case.

Now the pesky radiators had to go in...

Assmbled the bottom back first...

Turns out the painted M3 bolts didn't look as bad as I thought they would after a couple coats of paint.

Last item for the day was to install the top fans and radiator. It seems I failed in my picture taking duties for that, but here is how it looked at the end of the day.

Pretty happy with the progress so far. thumb.gif Tomorrow will be a limited day, so I am going to get the GPU's mounted and maybe start on some tubing. Cheers and thanks for reading!

Finished up the graphics cards last night after work and got some tubing and wires installed tonight. Plan to leak test tomorrow night when I have more time to focus on projects.

GPU Block assembly:

Removed cover:

Installed thermal pads and plate... forgot to take a thermal pad picture though. mad.gif

SLI Bridge installed:

Did a little cabling and tubing installation:

Cheers.

M3 screws trigger my gag reflex... all radiators should have M4(0.75) screws, also the lenght of the threads is kinda short, usually just the thickness of the side covers(~1-1.2mm).

sorry for off-topic, just had to get that out there tongue.gif

First time building something custom, so I won't make the same mistake twice. M4 would be much easier. Although, they are turning out ok.

Filled the loop and ran 2 hours to check for leaks and get the air bubbles out. Then fired it up.

In the dark... Still need to get a UV light ordered so the tubing will glow, and an LED plug for the reservoir.

Overclocked to 4.4 Ghz. Ran Prime95 for an hour realizing I had an old version, so got a newer version and ran it again. Leaving at 4.4Ghz for now... may take it higher later, but it's so quiet.

Have a great weekend! biggrin.gif
