[LegitReviews] AMD Shows Off A-Series APU’s Performance Increase on Windows 8.1 - Page 2

>>Let's pretend they aren't stupid enough not to factor in the fact that the i5-4670k is a MUCH better CPU that far outweighs the difference between the two's iGPU's.

the 6800k is a great "all in one" sort of package, but just because it can be 300% better than Intel's crappy iGPUs doesn't mean the 6800k's that great..

These benches are obviously cherry-picked, but saying that the CPU advantage that the i5 offers "far outweighs" the better GPU on the A10 is ridiculous. Let's feed both of these chips adequately-fast dual-channel memory and see which one produces better gaming performance. I don't even need to tell you which one would win.

It's no secret that the Intel would pull ahead in any CPU-bound task. For what it is, the 6800k is a fantastic chip. No one (with sense) would buy an unlocked processor like the i5 and /not/ slap in a dGPU of some kind, it goes without saying. Despite Intel's iGPU still being behind AMD's, at least they went from "hardly useful waste of time" to "decent" in that if your GPU committed suicide, you could still get away with some gaming (albeit turning the settings down to pretty much the lowest presets or such) as you wait for the RMA process to go through.

>>Wait.. Wasn't the 6800K launched a while ago?
--

Yeah, a few months ago. They just used it to demonstrate the marginal perf enhancements you get if you decide to "upgrade" to Win 8.1.

As we can see, these benches are about the iGPU, not really much to do with the CPU portion, so I don't think x86 perf was actually enhanced. People who want that would have to wait for Kaveri/FM2+ Athlon/Hypothetical SR FX.

I mean, a cow is faster than a turtle, but in no way is a cow fast lol.

It is nice to see some tangible increases in performance with Windows 8.1 Keep them coming!

It is stll relevant for those that just don't wanna bother with a discreet gpu. Just not for people like us here in OCN.

It's actually relevant to a lot of OCN users that have HTPCs. Just needs more good ITX boards.
