Effective PC Power Management Software

Hi guys.

So for the past week or so, i've been looking around trying to find some free power management software to install on my rig. With the rising cost of energy, it's the prudent thing to do.

I find the built-in power saving options in windows 7 to be ropey at best. Example: Sleep mode isn't exactly sleep mode when the PC is an insomniac and is easily distracted by even low processes such as anti-virus.

At the same time, i'd also hate for the machine to go into sleep mode should i be watching video's or on youtube.

So really, is there any sort of software out there that remedy (or at least attempt to remedy) these old and familiar problems with power saving schemes? I really could do with the extra savings.

I've found that the best power management solution is the power switch.
