Those games look great, but at many costs that are hidden from the end user. Also, these are the visuals. A lot of gameplay elements are gimped to be able to run them on consoles.
One more thing is, when these consoles were released, they had specs similar to a high end PC at the time. So don't expect optimizations to have as much effect as it did on next gen games as much as it did on current gen consoles.
The other thing is, most of the optimizations were just the developers learning the weird architecture of the current gen consoles. The new consoles have a similar architecture to that of a PC, so the games we are seeing now might be quite optimized since the devs are familiar with it, and there might not be much room left for optimization. I think we'll keep seeing the same graphics quality as we are now (as in, not stepping closer to photorealism), but we might be getting 1080p at 30FPS, and MAYBE at 60FPS with no difference in graphics anymore from now till the end of the console lifecycle 5-8 years from now.Edited by __Pat__ - 10/22/13 at 11:46pm
