I still can't believe the price would be that high considering it would be a non-tariff good though! A markup from 500 to a grand? The Labor costs can't possibly constitute a price increase of 100%. If that is true Sony would be smart to open up shop there. I know I would do that in their position.

It may not be fiscally sound for Sony to open a plant in Brazil to manufacture the PS4 there. Sony is a Japanese country and Japan has a different trade agreement than the US-Brazil.(obvious, not trying to be patronizing.)

I can posit with a large degree of certainty that when the US sold $20bil+ of petroleum industry equipment, these things probably occurred:

1. The equipment price paid was less then the actual value of the goods.

2. Said sale had stipulations of very favorable terms for US companies operating in Brazil, which can easily constitute a large portion of the retail cost between the PS4 & Xbone.

3. Lower tariffs on imported Brazilian goods in the US.

Like it or not, the US economy is large and has a huge appetite for natural resources and consumer goods and is nearly a guaranteed market for any goods produced the world over. This is why the US can dictate favorable trade agreements for our interests. If a country doesn't like the terms offered, the US will find another country that does.

a 1k USD PC is around 4-5k BRL (~2,2k USD). But its easier to import PC parts, the small parts are more likely to not be taxed, i bought my SSD from JPN (with 50USD shipping cost, was 150BRL cheaper than buying here).

I have a PS3 and a PC at home. i play more at PC because the games were overpriced here too.. a new game on PS3 up until 2012 was around 110USD. And for PC i have steam, steam BR has a better price than most of countries (i believe only russia has better deals)

PC hardware taxes are 20% now, used to be 60-70%. Makes you think why the hell you haven't seen any price drop. (Tip: greed)

No, just commerce making a bigger profit. Why lower the prices if we are still buying?

Unfortunately, lower taxes never mean lower prices around here, just more profit.

Thus is how the world works. thumb.gif

Sure it would be nice if they did, but they aren't in business for the peoples sake. They're in it for themselves.

Yep. And they always find a way to blame the government and taxes (everyone buys that excuse). It's like being rich and convincing the poor on making a protest about how the govermnent shouldn't tax the rich. *cough teaparty cough*

Actually, if there isn't a oligopoly or any external distortions......

The natural course of business would be.... one company lowers their prices, but makes up for that loss in volume of sales. Then other companies lower their prices to beat the other company. This happens until you hit a price equilibrium.
Once again...
