hey guys so im looking at doing my first water cooling setup, i have an i7 920 on an x58 asusp6t and a MSI Radeon HD7950 Twin frozr3. in a thermaltake level 10 GT Snow edition.

i want to watercool my cpu and graphics card.

so 1: radiator. how much rad do i need?
and 2: how strong of a pump do i need?

someone posted that there is a guide on this and heat ratings for cpus and gpus but i wasnt able to locate it on the site. if you have the link to such a chart please link me smile.gif

i read a detailed guide in one of the stickies and it was very informative. im just in new waters here(pun intended)

Thanks guys

The Basic rule of thumb is you want 120mm rad per block and +1 for headroom, but overkill can't hurt tongue.gif

A buddy of mine has a almost the same setup (running a i7 950 and another 7950) he runs 2x 240 rads with a pump/res combo. (this: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=367&products_id=36766)

He is able to OC the CPU and gpu without a thermal problem.

Now the second thing is, like Heraclides mentioned, what is the case you will be mounting this in?

CPUs vary considerably from sample to sample, but a good D0 i7 920 pushed to reasonable limits can consume 200-250w of power and needs to dissipate a corresponding amount of heat.

A single HD7950, pushed as far as it is likely to go on water (1150-1200 core, 1600-1800 memory), with TDP throttling disabled, can push 300w+, worst case scenario (OCCT or Furmark). Not all of this will make it to the water, but with a full cover block, most will.

You'll want a cooling solution needs able to move at least 600w of heat (reasonable headroom included) with a reasonable delta T.

Given that something like an RX360 can dissipate about 200-300 watts with decent fans while achieving water temps 10C above ambient (http://martinsliquidlab.org/2012/03/27/xspc-rx360-radiator/4/), you will need a lot of radiator, more than will easily fit in your case.

My advice would be to air cool the CPU and watercool the GPU. Water is only likely to buy you about 5% more OC on the CPU vs. top end air, and won't necessarily be any quieter. However, water will get you 10-20% more on most GPUs and is more likely to reduce noise.

do you happen to know how i check if my i7 is a d or a c? i read a thread about overclocking i7 920 and it said that some are d0 and some are c0/1?

also my case is a Thermaltake Level 10 GT, i think i can get 120 on the back, a 240 on the top and a 120 on the bottom., i know i have room for the thick XSPC RX240 up top and i could do the Thick RX120 down bottom, not sure about the side.
i may be able to mount a 240 against the drive bays vertically, who knows.

ill have to look into more guides on the GPU, im still really new to overclocking.
this is the space i have to work with,

I just spent $900AUD on my water cooling gear.
I'm going with a 560 Monsta radiator to cool CPU + GPU + GPU

Wow thats a lot of $$ tongue.gif
im more asking how much radiator area i need and how strong of a pump i need.
Thanks though

ive looked at a few pics and realized that i may not have as much cleareance as i thought for the RX240(plus fans) with my memory and CPU air cooling heatsink, ill have to measure and make a blueprint of my space tonight.

CPU-Z will tell you, as will knowing the part or batch number.
