Which graphics card to get?

Thread Starter
I'm going to be getting a new graphics card within the next few months.

MSI GTX 760 Gaming 2GB
or
MSI GTX 760 Hawk 2GB

I game at 1080p. Do I need to get anything more than this for now? I was wanting to upgrade from my MSI Twin Frozr GTX 465 and then upgrading to whatever nvidia's actual new card would be. Not a refresh card. This seems to be the best bang for the buck as well.

I've done research and found that this was the best cooler of all the manufacturers. Let me know if there is something better.

Thanks for your time.

If you're willing to spend 289 on a Hawk might as well spend 10 dollars more for a 280X

That's $20 if I would get the hawk. But it's $50+ if I got the gaming. And I don't think I need 4GB right now. That would be more for multiple monitor gaming. Right now all I need is something that will play the upcoming games such as AC IV Black Flag and Batman Arkham Origins. I'll upgrade to a beastly card when Nvidia releases a new new card line. XD

Pass on the 760 and look for a 670 if you're dead set on Nvidia

If this is your thinking, then I would maybe try and wait out even longer if possible. However, if you still want a new card now and a new card later, I would get the cheaper of the two options that you listed.

GTX Holiday Bundle. This is why I want to stay with nvidia. And I've only ever had nvidia cards. Most of my games are built around nvidia with physx and such.

I'll probably get the Gaming 2GB card.

But still haven't had my question answered. Do I need more than 2GB for 1080p gaming? I've seen some charts on BF4 and it almost uses 3GB but it was on triple monitors. But that is alpha gameplay though. (Using BF4 as an example)

The 760 is a ripoff at that price even with the bundle.

The official recommended specs for BF4 as released by DICE say "3GB of Graphics Memory". However, the minimum is 512MB. With 2GB it may be hard to run some of the higher level texture settings at 1080p, however, you will definitely be able to make 2GB work. Also keep in mind that the 760 will probably not be able to run BF4 at max settings, but I also haven't seen any benchmarks. I am basing all of this on the officially released system requirements.
