Using NAS drive in desktop computer

Thread Starter
Hey guys got a good deal on a NAS 2tb western digital drive and want to use it in my desktop for added storage. Ive been having issues with windows 7 recognizing it. Anyone shed some light on what i need to do? It shows up in the bios but not in windows 7. Thanks

Did you format the disk?

Have you checked to see if windows disk management sees it? If it does you'll just have to assign it a drive letter.

right click computer, manage, then click Disk Management under storage. IN the right panel, find the drive in question, right click, create a simple volume if that's not already done, then right click, format ...

and you should be done. smile.gif

from commando prompt (Win+R) start disk management (diskmgmt.msc) and check if the drive is there.
If it's in the BIOS it should be there too.

bye

It does not show in disk management that's the problem. It shows my main hard drive and my external hard drive and that is it. Like i said it can only be found in the bios and if you go into the details about it, it shows its 0mb in size. Ive even tried just using it as the only hard drive in the computer to try and format it and it still will not work.

I don't know honestly, i assume it's powered on correctly? I mean, the sata power cable is connected correctly?
Sadly, it could also be that the disk is broken.
