Is my refrub 3GB WD green dying?

I've only used it for maybe 1-2 months, and I'm just loading it up with stuff I had on DVD, so I can toss them, unplug the HDD and only use it when I want something from it.

Yesterday it was working normal, then for a few hours it would take forever to to anything on it. Like when clicking on a folder, it would take ages for it to scan it and display the file info. And when copying from it, it would slow right down to a few MB/s and at 1 point even down to 65kB/s transfer speed. But then after a few minutes it would go to normal speed.

I restarted twice when all that happened, seems not to matter.Today it seems fine, and win7 says its not fragmented at all.

And now again about 24hrs later its taking a while just to move about 2.4GB on itself from 1 directory to another directory

This does not bode well

Oh and also when watching a movie with VLC yesterday, it would play a bit, then freeze, for a few minutes. And on another movie it would play a bit, the freeze for a minute, then play/freeze....play/freeze....

whats that??? and how so i check?

I have not run any error checking or anything yet tho, when I 12st got it I ran a full scan+surface scan and it was fine then...I rather it be a problem over the SATA interface on the mobo than the drive itself.

Right now my other super-rig is HIDDEN....dangerous times....

This actually was happening to me with my old 320gb hd, I thought it was dying, it would hang, sometimes would get an O/I error when I would boot, and sometimes windows would completely freeze and the C drive wouldnt show up.

I opened up my case and noticed my sata cable was loose, I reconnected the cable and haven't had a problem since, its worth a try before you think its completely broke! thumb.gif
