These are expensive & easy to fix mistakes. 12.$ for a bottle of top of the line mayhem's additive. DO EET NOW if you got the EK nickel blocks, should do it regardless.

A link posted earlier in the thread (http://www.overclockers.com/pc-water-coolant-chemistry-part-ii/ can't remember who posted it) says that glycol based additives (Mayhem XT-1 is based on Ethylene Glycol) "may result in a measurable drop in cooling performance."

Now I don't know if the low concentrations used in a loop would actually have an effect, but they also say that the lowered concentration might not supply all the needed additives.

I've heard good things about Swiftech HydrX, I think I'm gonna go with that.

I'm building my first loop soon, been doing waaay too much research into what parts to buy. Right now I'm probably gonna get EK Copper + Acetal blocks and XSPC or EK rads.

Copper, brass, and the connectors are ???

connectors are normally brass (zinc + copper) Red Line water wetter is a great automotive additive, but can eat acrylic if the mixture is too high. The auto additive you are using likely includes biocides along with anti-corrosion.

It's OK. More EK blocks for those of us who realize vrm/vram temps > 2-3 c on the core. tongue.gif

This is true, all additives can reduce cooling capacity of water if over mixed. I <3 acetal so much harder to crack than acrylic. Also, clear acrylic lets light into the system, which can promote the growth of bacteria. I'm going to be trying a bit of Red Line water wetter in conjunction with the new mayhem product. Going 5:100 XT-1 & 5:100 water wetter. Most of the coolants are close to identical, and some of them are less forthcoming with what they actually use. The point here is that pure water is bad. I was mislead by this information years ago, & it's cost me & many of my friends.

They came out with a new revision recently with a bigger VRM channel. Good stuff.

this is the new revision.

ok, i'm going to go hide before I Get yelled @ for derailing.

Cool then, as far as temps go im adding 2 more dual 200MM rads, so i'll have a 6 or 12x 120mm rad, and 2x Dual 200MM rads. So i am hoping for decent temps when i'm done on 4 290's and my i7

I love the look of acetal, I'm doing a whole black/white thing with my next rig and it fits perfectly.

I originally wanted to do nickel blocks, but I figure copper is less risky, cheaper, and I'm not gonna be seeing the underside of the blocks that often so it doesn't even matter in the longrun.

I'm really looking forward to this build, I'm trying to do it right as I'm dropping >$1k and I'm not even buying any new core components...

Plus I plan on delidding my 3770k and going for 5GHz, that combined with a cool 290 and PT1 BIOS and I can get some sweet benching scores.

I kinda want an XSPC loop over EK because I like the look better and it's cheaper. I can't find the 290x block anywhere though, I'm not sure where to find it or if it's even been officially released yet.

You don't want to use an ethylene glycol based coolant afaik. It will work obviously but it is throwing the kitchen sink at the problem when you really don't want the whole kitchen sink thrown at a simple problem. You don't need atni-freeze capabilities, you don't need the 200F + temperature capabilities, you don't need the lubricating abilities since pc pumps are designed to be elf lubrications, etc etc. All you need is a coolant that serves two main purposes, biocide and anti-corrosion. Basically all pc coolants fit this purpose.

Do ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III keep the VRM's cooler than stock cooler? The stock cooler does an excellent job keep VRM's nice and cool
