Ah well, it could be down to the binning of the chips.

I don't bother about it too much - too bad I couldn't unlock my Sapphire 290, and maybe a shame about the slightly higher stock voltage, but I know one thing: 1200MHz seems to be doable at stock volts for me.

I run the card at 1000MHz because, at the moment, I don't need more. But I was curious one day, so I tried some things, ran some checks and played Skyrim a bit. It seemed rock solid stable.

Long live the silicon lottery thumb.gif

I'm having a horrible issue of stuttering and up and down gpu usage with 290s in crossfire. Or even without crossfire, for that matter.

I've tried every driver there is, cleaned in safemode and settled on the beta 9.2 as the best so far, but it's still awful. (The 9.5 drivers were giving slow motion static audio in menus with v-sync)

crysis, bf4, unigine valley all show gpu use that looks like a lie detector test. And it shows in game. Very stuttery and low crappy fps, can't maintain 60 fps with exact same settings in the same place that my gtx 670 sli could.

Same goes for single card use. It's up and down and it shows; it's not just some AB anomaly that can be ignored. (AB beta 17). I'm not trying to overclock and temps never get above 75.... It doesn't even have the chance to.

Mining they will run 100% non stop and top out at 88deg with 50% fan (I have case fans running pretty high).

They are powercolor 290s unlocked to 290x w/ asus bios. Flipping the bios to 290 exhibits the same behavior. (V-sync on and off)

Anybody got an idea what would be causing this? I'm sure its a setting or something somewhere. In any case, every game I've tried they can't touch my gtx 670s and I'm pretty disappointed in them.

Asus V-LK
i7 3770k - OC 4.5
24 gb 1600mhz
xfx 850 watt silver (full 100% load under r9 290 bios mining pulls 730 watts at wall. 290x undervolted pulls 670 at the wall. In game is nowhere close to this. Furmark is ~650 watt)

are you sure you have both cards installed in the correct PCI-E slots?

Yes. Same as 670 sli, gpu-z reports pci-e 3.0 (x8) for both 290's. Verified in bios.

At idle, gpuz reports 2nd cards bus as 32 bit. But when doing any work this changes.
