Hi guys i really love AMD Gpus and AMD CPUs but i got to a point that im switching to intel/nvidia

the reason is to much talk and promises not being made... just empty as always
Mantle was the main reason a was hoping amd to do well but we dont have a clue or a real wolrd test
that show us how is going to change gaming industry or something...

i just decided to go 3930K and GTX780
after a lot of thinking and using AMD
since 2006

the R9290 / 290X are giving people

artifacts
OC pontial is ramdonly
No availability
crashes
black screen
More Power usage

So guys Goodbye until AMD do well.

i'll never pair my 290 to an AMD cpu, atm. enjoy!

Just got my sapphire r9 290!
Reference cooled but I might get a stick on after-market cool at some point. Loving it so far!

Does that seem like a decent overclock ?

With Trixx I can get the Vcore to +200 while AB only alows for +100 but I don't really see the point of it. I could do Firesrike without any artifacting with +200 and power limit to +50 with 1220/1750MHz but the card makes an awfull whine noise so I wouldn't leave it at that.
Now that I think about it. With my usual overclock (1100/1300MHz with Vcore and Power Limit @stock) on some BF4 maps the card whines a little bit and on others it doesn't at all. What's that about ? Not that it really bothers me considering that when I do play I have my headset on anyway.

Oh and what are other water cooling users' temps like ? I have two 280mm rads and the GPU stays under 50 if I don't play much (as in about an hour) but I saw it go up to 57°C yesterday. Not much to worry about but when I see that people running those custom heatsinks or AiOs with the NZXT adaptator getting only a couple degrees more (with near stock VRM temps though ^^) it makes me wonder if there's not something wrong with my loop.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

EDIT: Sooner or later I'll probably be chuking a second one in there so I can fully benefit of a good monitor.

Anybody ?
Water cooled temperatures ?
Whine ?
Water cooled stable OC ?

I unlocked mine to a 290X.

This one is on stock volts at 1100/1300

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/2076/rvnn.png

And this with more volts at 1200/1500.

http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/723/pcfd.png

I'm using EK full block with fujipoly thermalpads

Max OC in water with ASUS Bios 1225/1600. Not worth it.

Using 1200/1500 for BF4 (120fps maxed at 1050p in a 2233rz no vsync), and 1100/1300 or stock for anything else at 1200p with vsync at 60hz if the game doesn't need the 1200/1500 (about 100W more than with 1100/1300).

My temps in BF4 ~53º with 27ºC in the room. one 480 rad tor the whole system.

Whine when I use 1200/1500 and the case is open. Can't ear it while playing.

How about the whine ? Are you getting any of that ?
And WOW. 120fps with everything maxed out Oo ? Seems like a lot. On those new China Rising maps I've seen as low as 55fps I think.

It's 1680x1050. With stock clocks you can see ~ 100 AVG fps. Didn't tried with 290 bios. 290X since day 1.

Also, I didn't check the min fps in new maps. I checked on first days I was ensuring the OC stability. I supose that it can go down to less fps in some extreme situations, but the games goes incredibly smooth at 1200/1500.

How big of power supply would I need to run 3 to mine? I can't decide between the Corsair 1200AX(Gold) for 199.99, the XFX 1000 (Platinum) for 199.99 or the EVGA 1000P2/G2 (Platinum/Gold) for 179.99/159.99

System:
i5 3570k @ 4.6V @ 1.195. I don't think the rest of the stuff matter.
or even better, could I use a XFX 850W Gold? costs 104$
