with pt1/pt3 bios u should use asus gpu tweak
take care that this bios are just for bench and could destroy your card. i recommend to not use them for daily purpose.

Hey,

thought i'd ask in this thread.

Does anybody know how to change the bios so that i can change this minimum fan speed for my R9290X .

I think the low fanspeed is really a cullprit, it doesnt give any cooling at all. start the load and it takes way too long to spin up , because it waits for the 95°c.

This is utterly stupid as when i mannualy set a higher idle fanspeed the whole card works just better and cooler for far longer.

i want to change the fanprofile in the bios somewhat so that it just cools better without noise, it is perfectly possible, why amd choose to let it get to 95°c is a mistery to me.

maybe that has something to do with laying the mask on the silicon and material thermal expansion/contraction ??

if the fan runs just a bit faster at idle and pulls up a bit faster it doesnt get all that hot and noisy. the fan cools more then enough without sounding like a blowdryer.

its just Always comming in late and the heatbattle gets lost every time.

I tried vbe7 but that dont work on 290X bios.

grtz

How is it that my valley benchmarks are so random? I'm no benchmarker, but I'm just curious.

like let's take this one, taken a week ago. r9 290 CF, stock settings.

it's kinda low but I found out, when I was setting up my crossfire I had a beer to many and I connected my psu cables wrong ( one cable, with two plugs, each plug to different card instead of two plugs from the same cable to the same card.

when I noticed that, I re did the connections so one cable for each card.

and this is the result

it's a bit higher, I understand that power delivery could be the reason why it was lower vs properly connected power plugs.

but today, I swapped my cards, top one went down, the lower one went on top and now the score is this

For those seeing weird GPU Usage (Jumping from 0 to 100% all the time), it's a bug in the AMD Overdrive API, explained by MSI AB's developer (Unwinder) here:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4730549&postcount=489
Quote:
Jumping GPU usage sensor values is a question of driver bug in Overdrive 5/6 API and there is no proper solution for it yet. Currently Overdrive 5/6 API may return erroneous data under certain conditions. So you may either use GPU-Z, which is using old GPU software GPU load performance counter existing since ancient AMD GPUs (but the value won't match with GPU load displayed in CCC because those are different performance counters) or just keep in mind that sensor is broken in AMD driver and wait for fix in future.

Do all aftermarket cards with the good coolers use their own custom PCBs? Is there any chance one of them will use the reference pcb with a better cooler, that way it could be fitted to existing reference cards? Or maybe someone will release a cooler for the 290s that really is meant for it so it doesn't take up so much room and isn't so much of a hack.
