I wish I had a better card, at 1200 core I really can't complain but I have yet to get a CPU/GPU that gets a crazy OC.
How are you determining that your temps are the cause of artifacting?

This was me playing some bioshock 2 (infinite sucks)

Try disabling voltage monitoring in Afterburner and see if that smooths the graph out - I had real spiky charts like that with it enabled. Otherwise the core drops are probably just caused by the lack of proper workload on the card - looks like you had 250+ FPS for a while there.

I could use some advice on making a 290 as close to silent as possible when idle. Is it possible? Are stand alone water cooling pumps audible?

Of course I can accept noise when I am gaming or mining coins.

I installed a Arctic Accelero Hybrid (all in one watercooler) and when it is working well there is a constant low humming which stops if I unplug the pump. I also get random water sounds that come and go.

I am really disappointed and I will be returning the Accelero unit but I am unsure what to replace it with and I am a bit fed up buying gear that reviewers claim are silent only to discover within seconds that this is not true at all. mad.gif

Any experiences are most welcome. Would going to a full water cooling setup be the answer to the silence that I seek? What sort of budget would it require to buy pumps and whatever else that don't hum or buzz click knock rattle etc?

Benching on one screen with GPU-z and GPUTweak on another shows that when I pass that temperature, I get artifacts. It happens when I'm above that threshold, it doesn't if I'm below it. If I open a window then I won't artifact, but my room will be about 40f.

Also happens at 1100MHz, albeit a higher temperature. I run +18mv for that clockspeed and it is very stable but if I forget to turn my Gelid's fans up (have it on a manual dial) and pass ~67c or so then I'll see a couple small artifacts. A tad more voltage remedies the problem, but like I said if I'm under that temp I'm fine.

Can anyone find any benchmarks about 290x Crossfire in PCI 3.0 8x/8x vs 16x/16x?I know there wasn't any difference in performance in the past, but with this new Crossfire system,I would be interested to see that is that change anything or not?Or PCI 2.0 16x/16x vs 3.0 16x/16x since 2.0 16x has the same bandwidth as 3.0 8x.

Are you using one cpu + 2 gpu?
im using 2 × 240ex rad from xspc to cool up one cpu with raystorm and one gpu with aqua computer block for r9 290
My pump set at 3.idle between 36 to 40 and max for 50 to 55 depend on my room temp.so yeah i think something is wrong with ur setup.

I'm wondering if my temps are too high though.

Idle: 30c
Load: 67c

The radiators get hot as hell and the air coming out of the system is fairly hot. I get these temps whether I am gaming or mining for dogecoin. Any thoughts?
Load temp too high but depend on your ambient. You should see it max at around 50s Celsius though if your ambient is around ~28 - 36C.

we have the same problem sir...my gpu usage, core clock, and memory clock are spiking like hell...haha

they say the cause of the spiking is after burner...i read it somewhere here in this thread.

hope thats true and i hope msi will release a updated after burner compatible to 290/290x card
