General consensus is that Hynix is better than Elpida in terms of overclocking in R9 290/290X, correct?
My first one was elpida and I've had it as high as 1600 on the memory stable, but that doesn't "seem" to be the norm.

There doesn't seem to be much difference. Even people with Hynix are often stuck with "low" memory overclocks.

So my bros H60 is slowly dying, and since ive already bought the XSPC Backplate for my 290X (for aesthetic/strengthening purposes originally) - im thinking this might open the door into a more "custom" water loop for me (i can give him my current Venomous X-RT cooler).

Thinking of the Swiftech H320 as my gateway setup (not looking to spend $400+ for WC, not including the gpu block, quite yet)

The Swiftech rep says the H320 should be able to support an i7 2600k@4.7Ghz+ and a Radeon R9 290X@1200mhz+ rather easily.

I'm wondering if i get get the 320 now for my CPU, then eventually add the 290X to the loop in the future. Not sure if i can mix and match a Swiftech H320 with a GPU with a XSPC Razor block?

Another $140 for swiftech now and $100 for xspc block (and maybe some more for coolant/tubes/fittings) later to get my i7 and 290X "under water" seems like a good jump off point.

What do you guys think?

Or should i spend the extra $100 for the XSPC EX360 kit?

Before at 1200/6500 I would get ~17.4k GPU score on 3dMark11 with tess on. Now I get ~17000.

I re-ran a test I did before (1150/5600) and same thing, a couple hundred points lower. Different drivers, but I got lower scores using the same drivers too. Here are the links to the two most recent.

What the heck is going on? Has my chip really degraded? I've run +18mv for pretty much the past two months, the only time I've run higher voltage is for benching which I don't do all that much. Highest I've gone is 1412 in GPUTweak, about 1.28v after droop on my card.

Which sucks because I ONLY used trixx on my 7970's, I love it so much.

You sure you have everything set the same?
Even something like forcing anisotropic filtering in the driver, or some other obscure setting or something running could slip by....

Yea for me I just use Afterburner and I can hit high memory clocks but I have the aux voltage at +13. In sapphire trixx this option does not exist and I'm only able to get to 1450 when the core is at 1200 same voltage. Doesn't really bother me I actually really like AB currently. I just had used Trixx so long I was attached to it lol.

Swiftech kit is great. I swore by my h220 when I had it and it worked really well to cool an amd 8350 and a 7970 with 1 additional rad. There are some things you should consider about it though, such as the barbs on the pump are not removable. This means you are stuck with that tube size (dont remember what it was). Also, I had serious clearance issues on my motherboard because of the pump/block.

I would recommend the XSPC kit. It will cool just as well if not better, plus it is even more flexible. Don't get me wrong the h320 is a fantastic kit, however in my experience I wish I had just passed on it as I ultimately wanted a full blown custom loop (later got the xspc rx240 kit, now have a 480mm rad in push pull and a thick 420).

I dont see why not. I've been trying to undervolt mine but after a couple of restarts it goes back to the 0 default. Not sure why.
