Ok so I'm a bit annoyed with this. I have 2x MSI R9 290.

In benchmarks neither card will hit 947mhz. They are both watercooled hitting temps of around 40C. One maxes at 915mhz and the other at 850mhz.

Overclocking them sometimes makes them ramp up to 1100 but then I'll reboot and they go all over the place.

One ASICs at 77% the other at 73%.

I can also get +100mv in AB, is that all they can go or is it just the locked BIOS issue?

Well they aren't temp throttling, have you set the power limit to +50 in Afterburner and CCC?

If you have Overclocking disabled in CCC then you should only need to set the power limit in Afterburner.

AB's limit is +100mV but there's a bypass I think to make it go further than +100mV

as for your clocks not hitting the max clocks you set it to reach, did you set the board power limit more than +10%? and what benchmarks are you talking about? I run Valley and my 290X do run at the clocks that I set it to.

I saw this on my 290X and the 290 that I previously owned, when at stock settings (except for the fan curve, I use my own fan profile) the clocks doesn't sustain its set clocks, but when I set my board power limit at +10 to +15% the gpu clock reach the clocks I set it to do, it also depends on the game/benchmark. Valley can run it at top speed, not 100% constant coz you will see the clocks play around a bit specially during transitions between passes.

Yeah! I also hope that in the future regular 290X's and unlocked 290's will be able to unlock themselves even further to get all of these sp's. This will be a beast, and even more when the drivers has matured.

Yes, it's the 290x.

The fact that it came with an aftermarket cooler already installed was one of the main reasons I decided to get this model. I had planned on changing out the cooler had I bought a stock card, but after reading some of the (mostly negative installation) reviews AND the fact that all of the "good" coolers were sold out everywhere I looked, I decided on this card. It was the most expensive at $699, but overall, I went with what I wanted :-) and now I have bragging rights LOL. I have to admit though that the Windforce cooler on this one seems a little flimsy. One of the fans was rubbing up against something and I had to figure out a way to stop it, so I jerry-rigged a temporary fix until I can either figure out a better solution. I should include a picture of my handywork, maybe later on today.

Hopefully I can do some gaming on it today and see if it can handle Bioshock Infinite better than my old 1GB AMD Radeon HD 7700 series. I also plan on trying out Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, both of which I got just yesterday in the Steam sale going on.

I assumed since it was 1040 MHz clock speed it's a 290X which I had to look up. If I'm not mistaken your the first non-reference cooler with your Windforce after 216 members on the roster who either stuck with stock or did their own water cooling or aftermarket cooling. thumb.gif
