Just got a reference 290X straight from AMD Canada(not branded). 81.6% asic, hynix memory - does 1150 core and 1600 mem, +100mv, +13mv aux. Sock cooler with replaced tim and removed I/O plate.

So to see the voltage limit, can I do the following:

Push the VDDC offset to 200, find the max overclocks, and then tone down the VDDC by 10 until it becomes unstable?

Or should I raise the VDDC in increments of 10, and see how much the clocks can be pushed in each increment?

You find the clock you want, then find how much voltage you need for that clock. If it's too high, you lower your desired clock and try again until you can get decent voltage, speed and temps for it.

LOL I work the other way around, I find what voltage I wanna use with my daily clocks (for 290X I only wanna use +50mV) and then put a clock I know it would be unstable (with artifacts) and work my way down on the clocks, once no artifact is visible to me I use OCCT to verify if its stable xD

I would pick a voltage you are comfortable with first (I'd stick with the +100mV Afterburner provides, but that's just me) and then find the max clocks that are stable at that voltage. Just work your way up from something rasonable, like 1200 at +100mV and see how far you get/how far back down you need to go. Then I usually back off another small amount just for stability/safety.

It increases the core voltage.
1.4v is to much, i'm pretty sure you will be limited by core, then volts....around 1.3v -1.35 for runs would be my max.

Also what is the average with this cards? does the 290X reach higher clocks? afaik 1150/1450 should be expected with the majority of the cards 290/290X right?
