Thank you.

My Sapphire R9 290X has very quiet coil whine, but not that bad, only happens when getting stupidly high FPS like 300+

Other than that it performs fine with no issues or blackscreens

So I've been trying to read into this as much as possible, I was assuming the DirectCu II would be the best card to buy because of the aftermarket digipower delivery and the PWM heat issues people were seeing, but I want to watercool 3-4 of these and am wondering what the best card to buy will be.

If you are savvy, you can grab a 290X Trix for 500 euro from some German etailers, they are always very competetively priced.

http://geizhals.de/sapphire-radeon-r9-290x-tri-x-oc-11226-00-40g-a1048381.html

Chec out price history, it has been at 514 euro and 500 euro price points recently.

Yeah, you can also order it from Swedish retailers, goes for about 460€ . Don't forget, you don't pay import customs for shipments coming from EU.

you can make a bat file and put these 3 lines in it
Code:
CD C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,14
MSIAfterburner.exe

the first line takes you to the afterburner location, so change it according to where it is for you (or I guess if you place the bat in the AB directory you don't need the first line)

the next line is the voltage offset that will be used the next time you start the afterburner (but will not start the afterburner itself)...replace the second line with any of these for your desired voltage:
Code:
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,20 ........... +200mv offset This gets HOT
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,19 ........... +156mv offset This seems to work BEST
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,18 ........... +150mv offset
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,17 ........... +144mv offset
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,16 ........... +138mv offset
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,14 ........... +125mv offset
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,12 ........... +113mv offset
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,10 ........... +100mv offset AB's Optimum Setting
MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,0 .............. Return to 0

the last line starts afterburner which will load with the voltage offset according to the command used in second line....it is sort of a hack and if you touch the voltage slider it will only let you go to +100mV again so set the voltage via the command and do not touch it after you start afterburner

hope it's clear now

Thanks very much, and does anything like this exists for a core and mem overclocking? I would like to set up 1700 mhz RAM and around 1300Mhz COre...thumb.gif in couple of days under water

The DirectCu II is the only one that currently has a custom block in the works from EK. The models that use the reference boards really don't have anything to justify the costs and you would be equally served by going with a reference model if you were to water cooler one of the custom coolers with the reference board. Best option would be a Lighting or Matrix under water but they are no where in sight in the foreseeable future.

no idea, sorry....I don't deserve any credit for this, all I did was explain it in more detail how this voltage hack works to help others get it to work ;o]

btw you could try experimenting with editing the profile file for your card

in my AB profiles directory
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\Profiles
I have file
VEN_1002&DEV_67B1&SUBSYS_0B001002&REV_00&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0.cfg

which seems to be the one changed by the hack...looks like this:

if it works for the offsets maybe it will work if you try editing the default/startup parameters

since you've asked for the mem freq bump quite a few times in this thread already it seems you're eager to give it a try....let us know if it worked

I can't see myself needing to extend the AB limits, my card can't even get to 1200 on core without artefacting in games while keeping the max in gpuz under 1.35v which is already more than I would like for 24/7 and I don't care about benches really

just don't blame me if you fry the card since I have no idea how it works really ;o]

Best option would be a Lighting or Matrix under water but they are no where in sight in the foreseeable future.

Thanks Slomo! Much appreciated!

The 290X for 460? I doubt it very much. Sounds like you're talking of the 290. I which case I've seen that as low as 386 euro, currently going for 400 right now. A pretty good price considering the VAT inclusive price smile.gif

No youre right ..i think i was only seeing high fps and ignoring when it went low haha. Its around 80fps right now in 64player Lancan Dam and Seige of Shanghai.

Coulda swore some maps i was consistently above 100fps..but i guess im wrong.
