hardocp's review of Asus DCUII says its guaranteed Hynix as well. atleast that one is guaranteed to get a waterblock coz EK always makes waterblock on high end DCUII video cards.

Seen a review posted in this thread a few pages that said the DCU II cards were Elphida.

Im really not sure about the visiontek cards though....they probably are hynix due to the higher oc. But no way to guarantee it until they review it.

TBH Hynix or elipdia it doesn't matter, I've handled a couple of Hynix card and 3 Elipda card, and Elipdia cards actually reached higher clocks for me, first Hynix I got (my very first 290X that had bad Display port) only got to 1325 stable (doesn't matter what voltage added, that's its max) and second one which is a 290 only maxed out at 1340 while my current 290X maxed out at 1450 and the other one that my friend owns maxed out at 1500 stable.

The only reason why hynix was probably superior is because of the voltage control for memory, now w/ R9 290/290X don't have memory voltage control, whatever you get at stock voltage is what your max memory clocks would be, it's really just a roll of a dice in terms of the memory clocks.

if you do end up buying a reference card, I am selling my waterblock+backplate for $115 shipped.

I got my r9 290 cooled by a Kraken X40 and a Kraken G10, it's awesome, but the mounting proces was a pain. With +100mV core voltage and a power limit of +50% I get to a stable clock speed of 1207Mhz, is this considered good? Also, what is considered to be a safe VRM temperature? I saw that GPU-Z shows a max temp of 114C after a run of Furmark for VRM 1, is this bad?

My last 290 which was a reference Sapphire R9 290 had Eplida memory and the max it could do was 1450 on memory

Why you selling the block
