On my 290x, with the Asus PT1 bios, I get some serious Vdroop, I set it to 1.412 and it drops to 1.27 which seems to cause artifacting, everything is at 1200/1500, how can i get rid of this vdroop?

I found the problem. It wasn't that the cards were't seated properly, it was this:

Do you have any of the PCI-E lanes 4 & 6 occupied? (sound card, RAID card etc.)

If so, lane 3 (B2) will be disabled

Apparently I can't have the cards spaced out; they need to be quite close together which is a non-starter with the stock coolers. I guess I have to wait for the PCI risers. In the mean time I can use 2 cards, but not in SLI config.

I hate miners, I want a second 290 for CF. They're not available on Amazon and Newegg has the nerve to charge $100 over MSRP and still charge for shipping.

how much can you get an r9 290/290x now? from where I'm from there's no price gouging and shortage

Yes a Kuhler 620 would be enough to keep the core cool. The fan alone should keep the VRMs at an acceptable temp, but rigging up some heatsinks from something else would be even better. A couple poeple cut up old CPU coolers or something to make some, you'd just need some thermal tape or something to hold them on.

ty for the info I have an antec 620 here lying around so that's good to hear. the only thing to do now is to wait for the nzxt g10. it's not available yet here in manila but from what ive heard they're coming really soon thumb.gif

I bought the Gigabyte R9 290. Runs quiet and relatively cool, especially compared to all the other ones I saw the videos for on youtube.

After running 11 of these cards, i have yet to have the driver crash without it being my fault (overclocking or otherwise). If your blackscreening and crashing when overclocked, what do you think the problem really is?

Second, ATIman IS NOT SUGGESTED ANY LONGER. It mucks up more then helps at this point. Use DDU from guru3d.net, best uninstaller for both amd and nvidia.

Last, there is a way to increase the AB voltage limit and remove llc (vdroop), but seeing the issues you are reporting, I dont think that is safe for you lol.

You dont say to me nothing new. I know theese things but the black screen bug is caused by drivers. expecialy if power set in CCC manualy and not through AB. Because If I remove AB there is still black at startup when CCC loaded. So CCC cant manage to make itsel set to default.

Everything abou AB is truth. 17 version is absolutly better optimised than 18.

At the end, I put here the question many times, about which ASUS bios for 290 works well but nobody told me, or send a link frown.gif So you can and let me know how to increase voltage and disable throttling
through AB

You oc and you get black screen. You affect ACE files. Nothing to do with drivers.
