I'm building up a box with an Asus Maximus Extreme VI and 3x ATI R9 290 video cards. I'm dismayed to note I can't fit these video cards in slots A2, B2, or 3, because the 10 SATA connectors at the far edge of the board, which are stacked 2 high, interfere with the video card. I can put the video cards in slots 1 and 4 only, which is where I presently have them, but this does not allow for CrossfireX configuration. I've ordered some 15cm PCI riser cables for greater flexibility, but am wondering if there's a simpler trick. What is standard practice in this case? Does anyone else have this problem? If so, what did you do to work around it?

Ditto to this, I have no issues.

quick question guys. r9 290x reference or sapphire r9 290 tri-x? thanks
post #13943 of 43923
Probably Tri-X if you don't plan on water cooling.

I think reference with an Accelero or Gelid Icy might get even better temps but you gotta find and buy one of those coolers and void your warranty.

290 Trix without a doubt. Clock for clock the 290x is less than 5% faster than a 290, and a Trix 290 is even cheaper than a 290x reference. It should be 450 bucks, but with the mining craze you'll have to pay more.

It's definitely worth it. Queiter cooler, allowing better overclocks etc etc.

ty for the info. was gon get my r9 290x on wednesday but I saw this card getting posted just a few hours ago

http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=28645412 that's 22,000 or about 480USD, a reference 290x is about 550USD from where I'm from. there's not much price gouging and shortage here in Manila. you can get these cards anywhere with ease.

I did see someone selling a 1 month used reference r9 290 for 365USD. it's tempting me quite a bit as well biggrin.gif

we buy everything here locally so with changing coolers I just need to inform the retailer that I got it from. i know it sounds kinda weird but you just need to ask for permission to change the coolers so they can apply new warranty stickers with the new cooler. that's what they did with my HD5970 when I bought an accelero cooler a few years ago thumb.gif

Added Thermal Paste in the VRM1. Still getting high temps. ~ 70C. VRM2 is only 41C.

Whoa there, what's this... Seems BF4 is stable at 1190/1375.. This is good news. Way better than anything before plus temps all in check. No black screens yet.

Going to be receiving my RMA'd XFX card back tomorrow. Anything I should test before voiding my warranty?

P.S Anyone know of any good ways to remove those two stickers on the screws?

If you live in the U.S. nothing done to the card (except damage) will void the warrenty

Those stickers don't matter for RMA's in the US, XFX allows removal of heatsink for third-party coolers. The stickers on the GPU bracket are only valid for places outside the US that do not allow third-party coolers. I RAM'd mine after having some vrm heat issues with mk-26, I spoke with two different people there on the matter and was told about the stickers and whats allowed.
