It depends what game you play really. Games like Sleeping Dogs, Battlefield 3/4, Crysis 2/3, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider ect will cause a lot of work on the CPU. From this, you will be held back. I had gains of up to 30fps in those games moving from 3770K to 3930K in CPU intensive moments.

The downfall is, games coded for 3/4 cores might not yield any improvement. Most people will tell you that the 3930K won't do much. This is because those people telling you have never moved from a 4c CPU to a 6c CPU. I can only see games becoming even more CPU intensive in the future (in a good way, not a bad coded way), so more CPU power will be better!

Here is a little example. Sleeping dogs max out at 1080p. In an area I was sat on 42fps. I upgraded to X79, OC'ed the 3930k and loaded the game in the exact same spot. The fps was now on 74. Similar story with Crysis 3 and Hitman Absolution.

My 3570K is far from great. It's a total dud that's not even worth OCing on because of the high voltage required to get a decent clockspeed. I just put it on Craigslist, hope it sells. I'm really sick of this thing and just want it gone. I play a lot of BF3/4 so I hope to see a good improvement by upgrading.

Don't fret dude. Just wait for mantle, especially in the case of triple A games that have signed on for support. All cpus are barely utilized atm so even when its good it isnt that good. You dig?

Assuming lots of games make full use of mantle, and assuming mantle actually lives up to the hype. Hope it does.

I think my 3570K is actually reaching its limits and I hope mantle takes the strain away from my CPU. I see usage in the high 90s in BF4.

Windows 8.1 would max that out to 99 usage wink.gif

I was taking about CPU usage, I wish that my card got 90+ usage lol. The game stutters when it gets that high, it's annoying.

Didnt you hit 4.4Ghz? Thats about average for that chip.

Meh... according to this http://www.techspot.com/review/734-battlefield-4-benchmarks/page6.html - the difference between an i7 4960X@3.6Ghz and an i5 3570K@3.4Ghz is 1fps at 1920x1200 Ultra/HBAO

Yet goes from 30fps from single 7970 to 51fps in Crossfire (2560x1600 Ultra)

Again here http://www.techspot.com/review/645-tomb-raider-performance/page5.html there is 0 difference between an i7 3960X@3.3Ghz and an i5 3470@3.2Ghz, while there are huge gains with better GPUS.

I dont think getting a new CPU will give you the gains youre thinking of..but then again - upgrading is never bad.

With the same card - i thin frame time variance will be the same as long as you have a decent CPU (i5 2500k+)
