I would just like to add a small update regarding my 290x. I've been playing stable at 1150 core and 1500 memory with elpida from sapphire. I was going to go more on the core but I had a brief scare when I started it up yesterday morning and the screen was that rainbow colored mess after I logged in. Luckily I restarted and all was fine. I won't really overclock it more until my watercooling set up arrives. So far though, I am really liking the overclock gains from the Hawaii chipset. I am averaging 75-80 fps in multiplayer with ultra and 2x msaa in battlefield 4 on 1440p. Changing the res scale from 100 to 125 drops the FPS to about 50 average in multiplayer.

BTW, Arctic cooler/Gelid cooler users, can you guys tell me what dimensions of VRM/RAM heatsinks did you guys used... Imma just use a H100i on my 290X and I need to know the size of heatsinks needed for the VRM and RAM modules.

Didnt you hit 4.4Ghz? Thats about average for that chip.

Meh... according to this http://www.techspot.com/review/734-battlefield-4-benchmarks/page6.html - the difference between an i7 4960X@3.6Ghz and an i5 3570K@3.4Ghz is 1fps at 1920x1200 Ultra/HBAO

Yet goes from 30fps from single 7970 to 51fps in Crossfire (2560x1600 Ultra)

Again here http://www.techspot.com/review/645-tomb-raider-performance/page5.html there is 0 difference between an i7 3960X@3.3Ghz and an i5 3470@3.2Ghz, while there are huge gains with better GPUS.

I dont think getting a new CPU will give you the gains youre thinking of..but then again - upgrading is never bad.

With the same card - i thin frame time variance will be the same as long as you have a decent CPU (i5 2500k+)

You never seen a gpu bound scenario before?

These guys are hilarious. Hello buddy your whole test is weak.

The above data suggests that Tomb Raider isn't particularly CPU-intensive, as our Core i7-3770K offered virtually identical performance when clocked at 2.5GHz as it did at 4.0GHz. In fact, an 80% increase in clock speed to 4.5GHz resulted in a frame rate boost of only 1%.

Yeah, I'm at 4.4 but it takes over 1.3V which I don't like. I put it for trade on CL, hoping to find someone who will take my CPU/MB + cash for a 4770K and motherboard.

2014 and people doesnt know the difference between single and multiplayer and how affects the performance. Sad

Doesn't it have a nice weight to it? The 290 feels more solid than my 670 PE.

I'll bench with Fire Strike Extreme in OC to give you results on this smile.gif

Ok thx
The icy is very god but not quiet at 100% i have it on a 680 and regulate with scythe fan control
So on the 290x no PWM regulate too ..... its no go for me
thx

Yea for me too the fans are a bit loud, but you know? Compared to the stock cooler it doesn't bother me that much... I need a fan controller too, but at first I'll save money for a second 290X biggrin.gif
