Do you think then 700W PSU is too weak for single 290 and my rig (i5-4670K)?
Will you buy 850W?

I'm running with a 650W, 3770k @ 4.6 - 1.224Vcore
XFX R290 unlocked @ 1075 / 1350 +25mV

Pulling arround 400W during BF4.

My AMD Chip chews a lot more power than an i5 will, besides.......if Shilka says 700w is enough, i'd believe him smile.gif

EDIT: I should also add that the Tomb Raider test was done at 1200Mhz core clock with an extra 100mV applied through Afterburner......if you are going to be running stock clocks then 700w will be enough, i promise you that.

Maybe Shilka can say something about your results smile.gif

But I can re-download Tomb Raider and run that benchmark to give you apples to apples if you want.

If you can test it, it would be great!
Try to test it with overclocking on 1050MHz core/default RAM and also with slight overclocking with +100mV as you have.
If you haven't Tomb Raider installed then BF4 will be equal I think? But will appreciate if you can run also Furmark.
And please, measure a peak consumption, not average.

Thank you kindly smile.gif

400W is peak consumption or it is average consumption?

That said if you already have a 700 then keep it. If you do not have a 700w then a 850 is a total waste of money. It is way to much for 1 290/290x and only just barely enough for (2) 290/290x cards.

If you are not mining then while gaming eXtreme Power Supply Calculator has you at 500w needed 550 recommended with a 290X stock clocks and a 4670K @ 4.5GHz and 1.38v with 10% capacitor aging and a total 85% system load (probably more than you would see gaming). If you where mining then with 1 card you can expect 350-450w total system load and if 2 cards you can expect 675-900. I would never recommend running a PSU at 80% of it's capacity for days on end unless it was truly a high end PSU. I use the original PC P+C 1K-SR for mining with (2) 290s and (2) 5870s and that thing is breathing fire but it is server grade and weighs 2x as much as a 1200w PSU.

If only gaming it is ok to run your PSU near it's limits since it isn't going to be 24/7 365.

So anyways... my recommendation is if you have a 700 then stick with it. If you don't have a 700 then get a good 550-650 if you never plan to run (2). If you have any plans on running (2) of these things then 900-1200 should be what you go looking for. 1000-1200 will let you run 2 with breathing room and a 1200 will let you run 3 no prob.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for long reply.
Then how Sgt Bilko can measure around 650W?
His CPU is so power hungry?
Or peaks can be so high?

Thats average, it's floating between 390 - 410.

Can you please measure a peak consumption?

Unigine Valley if you can. Can you also run it with +100mV in AB?

Thank you.

Unigine Valley running at Extreme HD preset.

1100/1350 +100mV

It was jumping between 450 and 470.

Yes, please run some benchmark like 3DMark, maybe Furmark is heavy power consumption.
And also if you will have time some game with good graphic like Battlefield 4.
And don't forget to measure peak.

Thanks smile.gif
