For some reason these cards dont like to be at max frequency when they dont need to http://piclair.com/9gm7c my card

No i mean that i want it to run @1100 when im playing BF4 is all..

If GPU is not being fully used it will not clock up to 1100MHz. Also it will not clock up if it runs out of power draw.

In BF4 you should be seeing 1100Mhz clocks unless CPU is bottleneck, You dont have power increased or have V-Sync ON.

I totally understand and wish to god once the core was in 3D mode settings it stayed in them instead of dropping in the middle of a match because my cpu couldn't keep up for 2 seconds and then it goes oh more data let me get that for you.

I have the worst issue of this with World of Tanks. It's fine if I play consistent for a bit but when I start doing one match and then stepping away and and just sitting in garage I'll get back and then I go into match and stutter every 3 seconds because the clocks are doing the moonwalk to the gpu usage rate. Reality is applications and programs make bad use of code, it gets ugly and I need my hardware to be stable and steady to do what is needed instantly.

WoT is horribly optimized and is technically single core, they say multi but it's a secondary thread for the audio so no real multithreading of the engine itself until we get havok utilized.

Lord have mercy, way off course but I agree, there are users that don't care about the power saving and that for certain applications a steady operating piece of hardware is more beneficial. And yes even realizing it is not even noticeable technically the time it takes for a gpu to change power states, but it's constant fluctuating can have waterfall effects that are noticed to the user in the end product displayed.

If that is in BF4 you should try and up the power limit to 25% and see, I see 100% on 2 290s at 1100mhz

I just set the powerlimit to the max of +50%, and i avarages more towards 1100, 1080-1100, wich is an improvement.
But still wont lock onto 1100mhz. Maybe its just a mindbug of me, i just dont want it to drop whilst gaming biggrin.gif

If i up the voltage besides that with +50mv is sticks to higer 1095-1099's.

Edit2: i noticed that in heaven on extreme hd it doesnt throttle clock's back that often and actually stick to 1100 during a full scene. could it be that the gpu load on bf4 isnt enough?

you mean the clocks dropping? I am currently using the stock cooler w/ custom fan curve w/ +15 power limit and the most clock drops I get on BF4 is down to 1050, (using 1100/1350 daily clocks). but 99% of the time it stays at 1100, temps stays at 75C.

My card has 80% ASIC, which is on the high side, and it does seem to overclock better than a lot of cards I see other people with. So, I'm wondering the actual logic behind why ASIC doesn't matter on Hawaii. The biggest reason I've heard is that it's because ASIC was coded for Tahiti, so it works properly with Tahiti, but since Hawaii is a new architecture it doesn't apply, even though it will still let you read the ASIC quality.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that ASIC says nothing about a card, and that each card is individual and will clock differently. You have some 7970s that can do 1300mhz with high ASIC and others that can do it with low ASIC, and there's even some with very high ASIC that can run nowhere near 1300mhz without crashing, and so on.

Just curious why people say it doesn't apply for 290/X. Thanks.

Because my 290x has 77% asic and needs +13mv to be fully stable (+25mv to be certain) at 1100 MHz, although +0mv is stable in Heaven and most other programs (but I can get artifacting in 3dmark or Skyrim when temps rise).

you sure about that? that's not the way it works with me, just because GPU usage isn't 100% doesn't mean the clocks throttle. I cap frames in bf4 so am rarely if ever at 100% gpu usage on my cards but they still are at max core and ram frequency. They never throttle.

Because the register that GPU-Z is reading isn't ASIC quality on the Hawaii cards. AMD guys have already said that GPU-z isn't reading what it thinks it is reading, and that the value it is pulling out of there has nothing to do with the card quality. Here's the quote:

ASIC "quality" is a misnomer propobated by GPU-z reading a register and not really knowing what it results in. It is even more meaningless with the binning mechanism of Hawaii.
