Also I have Elpida ram too, my card was originally a powercolor R9 290 but i was the first one here to make the discovery that it unlocked to a 290x, boy i was given some grief around here until others confirmed the same thing regardless of all the proof that I offered.

i only oc for benching not gaming. i get the same results from ab and trixx if all i need to oc is +100 offset. i'm not into flashing bioses and editing apps. i use trixx for higher oc's that need +200 offset. i read ab can provide +300. at +200 with trixx i saw my load core voltage go as high as 1.41v. to me that is the limit.

i think it comes down to silicon lottery on both core and memory.

you can't get any higher than 1350 with the original bios or when flashed to X?

Thats cool...but having the heatsink and cooler on top.. is a problem. You need to be creative biggrin.gif

I have some ideas with an xbox 360 gpu heatsink, but dont have the tools to make all the mods into the heatsink..

I would say for gaming especially, crossfire support can be pretty crappy.

Also what is your case airflow like? do you have good case airflow?

In my setup VRM 1 temps never exceed 79C and that is with my card running a huge overclock and overvolt, im at 1.328vc for 1200mhz on the core. When im running stock clocks I only see VRM1 get up to around 60-65c tops.

BTW the glue is just fine, its what im using.

Welcome to OCN.

Case airflow is not the issue, I did put a 12 inch box fan and that VRM1 went down to ~95C only, I'm pretty sure I installed everything correctly but I'll take apart the cooler to inspect.

I could try to flash it back to a 290 and see.

There is a huge discrepancy in our temps so something is up, I know vrm 1 temps give a lot of people trouble but it usually comes down to poor airflow or an incorrect instillation. Not saying you have these issues but its a possibility. Either way good luck and I hope you find the problem.

You sure you got all the VRM's? Not sure on the 290X but the 7970's had 1 in a obscured place that folks have missed.

Single card I think is actually better with AMD at the moment, nvidia has not had a really good driver since 306.96.

I'm guessing you mean its a problem for you?
