Well of course they would void the warranty if you de-solder a component from the video card. If a manufacturer doesn't, I would avoid it them as bad decisions like that will lead them to bankruptcy. Voiding warranties for better cooling is another issue. It can reduce temps and actually help the video card last longer and preform better (no matter what the blind follower told me much earlier in this thread) if the correct cooling is used and is installed correctly. Many aftermarket cooling fail to properly address the vrm and ram.

I am still stuck with stock cooler since I can't find a block in stock anywhere in Finland so I don't really want to overvolt too much right now biggrin.gif

I also have Elpida memory on my cards and if I overclock the memory much past around 1500 I start to get really strange issues such as the entire screen flashing whenever I drag something on the desktop. Not sure what causes this, could be something to do with my monitor (one of the korean PLS ones) running pretty close to it's refresh rate peak. Granted I've not done any increase in voltage yet (I have a feeling voltage is locked on my cards anyway). I'll try once I get in and see what happens.

Adding voltage has fixed it for many people.

Is that with stock cooling? With what voltage?

In North America, if you buy an XFX card you can change the cooler without voiding the waranty. I have an XFX 290 Black Edition and ask them if I can change the cooler, and they told me if I bought my card in North America. I can do it without voiding the warranty

Is that a trick question? I'd be more worried about frying the card though.

Anything less and I get errors in OCCT. With +168mv I can run it for 10 minutes and not get errors, so it seems good to me. Tested it in games a lot over the last few days, no crashes or lockups, no display driver crashes.

Anything more than 1200mhz on the core causes artifacts in Valley. Well, I can get away with 1215mhz with no artifacts but I just leave it at 1200 because it's an even number and I'd rather have total stability when gaming over a tiny bit more performance.

You're lucky your ram does 1600mhz. Mine will do 1550 fine in Valley, but 1600 I black screen immediately, even with +50 aux voltage in Afterburner.

Overall I'm VERY happy with the performance of my card at 1200/1500 and the only problem I've had at these clocks is artifacts in Skyrim using ENBseries. If I turn the core clock down they go away. This is the only game so far that does this, and it doesn't artifact without ENB at those clocks. The performance and temps of this thing is great and it powers through most games I play in Eyefinity no less. Any Unreal Engine 3 game seems to run at 60 fps with everything maxed out, I've tried Unreal Tournament 3 and Bulletstorm. Other games run great too, like Just Cause 2. Really the only thing I have it can't max is Crysis 3, I have to turn a few post processing options to "medium" to get good FPS, but I can't tell the difference between having them on medium or very high anyway. I also have the Metro games but I'm yet to try them.

Thanks for sharing your experiences as well on your R9 290 TRI-X. thumb.gif

In my experience, the aux voltage in AB does not have any effect in OC. Maybe it will be fixed in beta 19? I only tested this with Firestrike since the VRM1 temps don't go over 80c, in BF4 even with CC1150 i'll have a VRM1 temp of 80c-83c Max. I have a feeling that i'll have some artifacts in other Benchmarks and Games in those test as well and adding more mV. mad.gif

Around 25c to 27c. I clicked on custom fan profile in TRIXX and did not configured any. I'll update my post.
