[Official] AMD R9 290X / 290 Owners Club - Page 1522

Sorry if this has been answered before. I just did a clean install of windows on my PC. I wanted to go back to my OC of 1150/1450. I tried setting the power to +50% in CCC but it just resets itself. Any ideas on how to go about fixing this without installing MSI AB? I'm using Trixx to OC.

Im also runnign trifire 290s under water. Stock with i7 4770K in sig runs at 870 - 880 watt from the wall with games like bf3/4 and crysis 3....so with 93% efficiency (worst case scenerio)....system requires about 820W from the PSU...

OC to 1150/1350 + 75mV I get around 970 watt from the wall...therefore same efficiency means system draws about 900 W from the psu:)l.

Mind you might be bc its under water that there is less leakage from the gpus due to lower temps.

I almost draw more power than you with two stock aircooled cards with my cpu at 5ghz iirc. Is your rig working right?

I run dual psu and the cards were connected to PSU1 which for the test only powers cpu/mb/dual gpu. Everything else is connected to my 2nd PSU.

Running 3dm11 extreme at stock with +50 on air, so it's throttling a bit as expected. 903w x .89 at that wattage = 803w. This number should blow up with blocks and serious overclocking. Ya need to remember that on the stock bios PT is trying to keep the tdp of the cards very very low.

Yeah, some people actually believed that they were purposefully designed that way.

Is it because the cooler just plain sucks or is maybe because AMD decided in their wisdom to keep the card in a specific temp range on purpose? Maybe you know more than AMD? You know, doh.gif if you had a better cooler, it would take the card out of this specific range and now make the card expend more energy to maintain the lower temp and it also forces the card to go thru many more heat cycles in a given timeframe. Just because everyone thinks they know what the hell they think in their head is right, doesn't make it so.

Soooo, I'm seeing these XFX DD R9 290's. One is standard, the other is "Black Edition". Besides the obvious minuscule overclock the Black Edition offers, are there any other differences?

Nope, not a thing, i went for the Black edition cards (only $10 more here) for a "chance" at some better cards.

if the price diff is minuscule then get the Black Editions if thats they way you wanna go smile.gif

You will have some smexy looking cards though tongue.gif

Better to be prepared.............and on that note, I'm kinda looking at these Kogan 4k TV's that are coming out, sub $1k.....gotta be a reason for that right?

i mean, i'd probably never watch TV on it but for gaming it could work biggrin.gif

EDIT: Ah, nvm.....no Displayport and i'm pretty sure that 4K need HDMI 1.2 or something, i can't remember now. rolleyes.gif

I'm looking for 50 inch 4K UHD TV/monitor, was trying to find out more about the Kogan TV connectivity and it looks like it doesn't have Displayport 1.2a, only few TVs have.
The late models Graphic Cards only supports 4K 60Hz with Display port or 30 Hz with HDMI 1.4. The latest HDMI 2.0 now on some late models 4K TVs also supports 60Hz but no graphic card has yet HDMI 2.0 connection.

Well i was just searching around and on Club3D's website they claim HDMI 2.0 support for the Ref 290/x so that would mean that all have it smile.gif

We might just be in luck here: http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-r9-290x.html (about 1/3 down)

XFX R9 290X Double Dissipation Edition CrossFire Review at [H]ard|OCP, January 26, 2014
Quote:
When we look at performance versus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti SLI we also find the XFX R9 290X DD CrossFire coming out on top. This we did not expect. We figured GTX 780 Ti SLI might provide some faster performance in some cases. However, it really didn?t. When playing demanding games at high resolutions and aiming for those high in-game settings R9 290X CrossFire pulled through as the faster solution. When we cranked up AA settings, again R9 290X CrossFire pulled through. There wasn?t one scenario in our gaming experiences that GTX 780 Ti SLI was superior in gameplay experience to R9 290X CrossFire configuration from XFX.

We have a lot of good to say about the XFX R9 290X Double Dissipation Edition video cards. If we could give an award to the "best looking" video card, it would be these from XFX.
The above Quote is small part from page 11, Conclusion & The Bottom Line

BTW I'll be joining the club in about 2 days with Sapphire R9 290X 4GB TRI-X OC Crossfire
I hope my Corsair HX1000 80 Plus can handle voltage overclocking with 2 cards, any input on that?
